Does anyone near the east side of Indianapols want duck eggs?!?!?!? Found mama duck on the eggs in neighbors back yard. Tried to move it to a better location but mama flew off. Moved the eggs just a few feet away from the dogs but I don't think she will come back for em. So if anyone wants ducks pm me. Here's a pic of the mom.

She was very beautiful with a blue stripe on her back.

no idea what kind of duck it is, but I would like ducklings. That said I don't have any spare incubators. I have one working incubator and it is day 14 for chicks. I live in Bargersville so not too far from the east side. However I do not have a car during the day so no real way to get to you. I have another incubator but it is missing one of the windows. If I can think of something to cover it I'll check and see if it holds temps.

I'm pretty sure it is a mallard hen there.

I don't know for sure, but I'm not sure on the legality of taking the eggs of a wild mallard. They are federally protected and I think they frown upon harvesting their eggs.

Hey all another quick question
D.gif

At what age do hens stop laying or cut back on laying on average??
I have 3 one year old hens I recently got (RIR, Golden Comet, Easter Egger) but I guess since I don't know exact dates they could be closer to 2yrs old. I'm thinking about getting younger chicks that haven't started laying yet to keep a nice rotation of laying hens and maybe add a few chicks every year.

How does everyone else manage their aging flocks??
And do you need to separate the hens that no longer lay from the producing gals??

Thanks in advance for all input! I just love having this forum of fellow Hoosiers! :) I guess this didn't turn out to be a quick question! Oops

Love all the pictures, all the babies and fantastic looking coop builds!
I have several chicks available, from day old to a few weeks. All large frame GLW, EE, and BR/GLW cross. your choice $2 each. If anyone is interested please PM me.
Will also have Chinese white and brown geese, and Muscovy ducks hatching. Asking $5 each, will do quantity discounts or swaps/trades for livestock also. Geese are excellent watchdogs, but are not flock "guardians", they will alert you LOUDLY if something is out of place. I also found out a few days ago they break up fights! My Rooster Rebel escaped from his fence, and Red, the oldest rooster saw him... it was ON! So i am rushing to grab my net, and my Gander promptly walked over, grabbed and SAT on Rebel!

I could not believe it, but I walked over and grabbed Rebel up. Big G and Red just walked away.
