INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I have chicks pecking at another one what do I put on the bloody spot the chick has? I have separated them but she is all alone and is like crying. Driving me crazy. They are only 4 weeks old.

You can try a little Blu-Kote on the spot to disguise it. I've also heard of switching to a red bulb in their lamp to keep them from pecking, but I've never used that myself so I don't know how effective it is.

What is that, if you don't mind me asking? I was just planning on getting some gravel to fill that trench so the water can flow out, but my sand won't wash away so much. All that rain flowed away nicely, so my hens at least had firm land to come out of the coop onto. :yesss:

This is a great quick video on DYI. We have one around the front of our house and will be putting in one by the coop. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=rM-DxY57XBU&desktop_uri=/watch?v=rM-DxY57XBU
Also Google it and you will get a lot of sites.

Looks like a nice extension to my plan. :thumbsup I'll have to look into trying this!

Hope everyone is dry and safe today! unfortunly in Tipton county we are flooded in the rual areas and some of town. Started off as bringing my horse to dry land- to a rescue mission for my horse and my neighbors- took about a hour to bring them up on dry land , but both girls are now in the chicken run temporary

The water was so high and fast current that the girls were freaking out and loose still don't know how my mare got out, and the neighbors horse was over in our property before I was going to get my mare. Just glad they are both ok

will a 3 gallon bucket be big enough for a brahma?

You have a cat right? can you get your hands on tidy cat buckets. Being box shaped they might be a tad easier to build with. I think you need a cubic foot of space for a large fowl hen nesting box. That said I have hens that are laying eggs in a divided dresser drawer that is only 8 inches deep so their heads stick up out of the box. Even if you bought the litter and stored it for a while in your 3 gallon buckets to keep it fresh, the box shaped bucket might be better.

Not flooded here, thank goodness! The pens are wet but no standing water, and no chicken foot rivers!

I'm on a little higher ground, so that helps; the lower part of my woods is probably a mess though.
Hope everyone's critters are okay.
