Hi, I'm Judy from down south in Charlestown. I have 24 mixed breed hens only. Hoping for eggs soon. They're about 20 weeks old now.

Yes. Brick makes sex-linked cuckoo orps. A lav orp female works like a black orp, so that's how I can tell the gender of those 2.

.....and I think most people here know the daddy: Brick.

I have decided to stick with my lav orps & also see how the laced orps turn out. Due to limited space, I'll need to rehome Brick. He's now a mature roo & perfect gentleman. I have many, many of Brick's offspring running around here right now. There's no way he could be dinner, so I'm letting people know that he's available. I'm not in a hurry, and he deserves a good home. He gets along with other roos. (Of course my other orps are huge, so he never dared to challenge them. He prefers to let them fight for the #1 spot while he spends his time with all the hens. LOL)

I have a one year old Ameracauna hen who has been broody 3 times since March. Is this normal?

Well I tried uploading pictures GRRR keep getting an error.. The chickens and turkeys were running around with the cows, too funny. Now that the strands are higher on the electric fence, they are able to go into the pasture again. When Fanny our first Jersey was here 2 years ago, I often had a chicken or muscovy catch a ride on her back. Moose does not find it amusing when the turkeys fly up into the trees! He moos until they fly down, or he loses interest.

Too much going for a garden this year. But Have a Roma, and a Red bell Pepper plant hanging.
Sheep have crossed my mind but they are more expensive than calves! In our area anyway. I am also concerned about grazing habits. Pigs really damage a pasture if not rotated quick enough. I have read statements of sheep eating root and all of valuable plants. Anyone have input, experience?

Hoping this picture posts! I think it worked. It says to click on picture to enlarge it.

Under the back end of our trailer is the chickens, running around grabbing bugs the cows stirred up. I don't think this was the best angle to take a picture at. I can't see them now in the picture. Our livestock trailer is huge. This new section of pasture is incredibly overgrown! Over 300ft long, and about 100ft deep. My Holstein heifer Abby is over 4 feet at her shoulder in height. Its the black and white cow left in the weeds.

Yikes! I'm completely up North! I'm in Griffith,Indiana. It's about 20 minutes from Chicago, IL
But a trip to Indiana Beach Sounds Fun.

Seems like I saw a post on the Muscovy thread early this year from someone in Hebron. Sill a bit of a drive for you but better than Central or Southern IN! My neighbor has a good flock of Muscovy from my originals. I plan to restart next year from his eggs.

Now that we have the chickens almost all set up, I'm going to line their yard with raised beds. I'm so excited. I think we figured we can do two 8ft beds down one side and a 6ft and 2ft down the other side. I think I'm going to make each box a "theme", but I am definitely getting my herbs in this year. I just need to decide what to put in!
