INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hey friends, I was talking about my rosebushes earlier and I was wondering if there was a safe for chickens pesticide or something organic that will keep the bugs off of my rosebushes. I haven't treated them this year because I was scared the girls would get sick

@nenebynature
Does she have to bring the pot in for winter or will it survive for the next year in the pot?
She just leaves it out all winter. If the pot is big enough or is protected the mint will be just fine. I have some that's been growing in a window box pot next to my front door that is so root bound I don't think there's much soil left and it is still doing pretty well. My chicken run addition is almost completed and I am going to split it and planted around the outside of the run because I feel so bad that I've left it and neglected it for so long

I'm aiming for a large duel purpose breed that's good at foraging and that are good brooders. it will probably be a three way cross of black Jersey giant, barred rock, and New Hampshire red
Hm. Large dual purpose, good at foraging, and broody. It sounds like my Black Langshans! I have about 18 growing babies that I need to move out of here. Do you need some birds to start your project with?

, giraffes, and a couple of lion cubs. (Well...I exaggerate a little...but not much!)

Oh! I would pay money to come see some giraffes! I love Twigas. Can we fed them?

Anyone know of places to buy bulks of sand? I want to buy truck loads if possible. My Muscovy's have turned my freshly laid sand into mud already! It's only been maybe 2 months! But all the rain helped them too.

And one more mint question - do you use your mint fresh when you make tea or do you dry it first?

I just pick a few sprigs and put water in the kettle to boil and then pour it over the leaves. If I'm feelin fancy (which isn't often) I'll use the loose tea spoons. I enjoy as much as possible from spring until the frost takes it in the fall because I don't really enjoy it dried. I could talk plants all day.
