INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Yes! I actually use kiddie pools. I have a pond being dug currently but I've used kiddie pools for 7 years now. I feed my muscovys chicken layer feed 16%

You can feed Juvie's from 3 months + the layer feed. Younger than 3 months, they need a higher protein.

More pictures! :love

They actually do roost! Just like a chicken. -Perfect chicken not chicken! My Muscovy free range, so they are always roosting in tree branches.

Ducks in trees! That sounds so funny to me!

When we 1st moved here I noticed that our suburban mallards liked to hang out on the roof. I never saw anything like that growing up, but no one believed me when I told them about it. After about 6 months, DH was around to see some up on our neighbor's garage. Now we even have the Canadian geese up there at times. I guess it's a safe place to hang out - especially now with a fox in the area. We don't really have many natural ponds around here (that's where I spent much of my childhood playing) so the wild ducks frequent all the swimming pools & then pop up onto the roof when people come out.

I need to do some research on muscovies and how to keep them with chickens. I'd absolutely love to add some ducks to my barnyard!

Muscovies aren't as cold hardy, and they fly pretty well--so well, in fact, that I had to give mine back to @jchny2000 because they refused to stay in my yard and we're always visiting my neighbor, eating his cat food, and crapping all over his porch. They come in lots of neat colors and are certainly conversation pieces. They aren't as good a layer or as soft as many mallard-derived breeds, but they are good broodies and eat mice. They're much quieter than mallard-derived breeds.

In another update, the buff Orp has decided people are great perches! She's flown up to and landed on both my husband's arm and my chest today, and she's hung out on us until cat food was thrown on the ground, at which time, she's cheerfully dismounted. Very treat motivated girl! She's taken up with David Bowie and snuggles with him nightly in the elm tree.

I drove 2 hours to re-trade back my amazing male. I traded my friend the wrong male because it was 2 am dark outside and I was tired and just grabbed a cage that said male on it. Foolish for me for not looking at which male it was.

Also picked up 7 barred ducklings along the way! Not all of them are in the picture. They ran inside the coop when camera came out.
