INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

@pipdzipdnreadytogo
Another hatch should occur tomorrow. (2 eggs are already pipped)

In the meantime, can you give me another silkied cochins fix? Your teeny babies are soooo cute! My giant orps are never that small which is why I find your chicks so interesting.

So True!
@pipdzipdnreadytogo has some of the most photogenic birds. She's even got me thinking about getting a Dorking someday. Of course I'd have to get my orp number down 1st, & I only seem to know chicken math = addiction. Every time I do some subtraction, more addition comes along. This year is even harder because I added a couple broody-prone hens. They're trying to multiply. Uh Oh!

Aw, happy to oblige. :D They are so tiny, and they bobble all around their brooder, and their super fluffy feet make them look like they're running around in footsie pajamas... :love :love :love I can't get enough of them.

Okay, picture overload! Here are pics from yesterday:

I do love my Dorks. They're the sweetest! Even when they're up to shenanigans. But just look at this face! :love

Editing to add, in case anyone wondered, this is Callette doing her best to look as innocent as possible having been caught trying to nest behind the coop door.

Hey everyone! I'm Chris, I live in Indy with my fiance and our daughter, and I just got my first flock this morning! 1 buff, 1 australorps, and 1 black sex link, all around 4mo. Names TBD as we learn their personalities. I'm excited to be a part of this group and especially excited to finally have my own flock!View attachment 1392181
:welcome WELCOME TO BYC AND OUR THREAD!:frow

One time I picked up some tomato plants from a local Amish greenhouse. The lady there told me to plant my tomatoes as deep as the first set of leaves. It helps to keep the stem strong and if a decent wind comes along your stems won't break off. It also makes stronger and healthier plants.
I had never heard that before and that was at least 20 yrs ago that I took her advice. My plants do really well.
Anyway, just wanted to pass that info on.
Good luck with your garden!
THANK YOU I love posts like this! We hope to have the remaining plants in and corn this weekend. We did onion, potatoes so far and they are doing great! I am doing a comparison between seed onion and sets. I already had one onion set bolt, so what I am reading is true for onion sets. I got Walla seeds and they started super easy.

I actually haven't been able to put my garden in yet, but I am always late to the planting party. ;)

Such a pretty bird!

Had a great afternoon with my chickens. They love the seed from the maple tree "helicopters" lol. They won't gather them by themselves, but I strip the actual seed out and its like candy to them! I'm enjoying having a little free time for my flock again finally. Some of the older girls remembered I do that, lol! One of my newer girls, a Barred rock has earned the name of Mabel. So much like my old Mabel RIP. Always right there, very social girl and a great layer. A friend recently got out of keeping chickens, so I have a daughter now of Bunny my first EE. I am not so good remembering names anymore so being able to reapply them is great. Bonus a GLW just like my Besty, and a BO just like Buffy.

Its really not late yet. I have gobs to still plant! Taters and onion take forever so they went in 1st.

Chickens are funny!
I almost always plant after mother's day. So, I am right on schedule.

Look what's in my incubator!

Thanks to @Molpet 6 turkey eggs found their way into my incubator last month. All the eggs are due to hatch today but these two decided to hatch a day early. None of the other eggs even have pips yet. I guess it's going to be an unusual hatch.

Meanwhile, I have a new/inexperienced broody sitting on 2 eggs from this batch. If she does well, she'll get the whole incubator. The hen is "Smudge" my giant 10lb orp hen. I never thought that big girl would go broody. Then I've got my penciled rock stealing eggs, squawking, and taking over the #1 nest box. She's also new. Let's not forget Cookie who's still caring for DD's silkie hatch. Now I know what people mean when they say broodiness is contagious!

I don't have a recent pic, but this is Smudge: a HUGE black/lav split English Orp.

Cookie & silkie chicks (a few weeks ago)

Penciled Rock a couple days ago. I now see where she was pulling out feathers & how she's more "puffy"
