I'm happy to say I will finish up tomorrow, maybe 90 pounds of cuts to package. Then the soup bones left. Leaving the bones for last in case I run out of room! If I do, i will share in case any one wants them. I hate to see anything wasted. My DD usually takes them for her dogs, but she won't be home for 2 weeks.
Chopping up all the bits that can't be used for us, (fats mostly) saving back for winter for my birds. I love lard but it's not good for DH or Dads diet. They're all getting a daily treat! The geese and Pekin not so much interested they are mostly a herbivore. Guinea, Chickens and Muscovy are chowing down!

I'm so sorry for you! :hugs I have anxiety attacks ever since my semi crash on the 2nd. My husband has them randomly, we haven't figured out what triggers his. But I never knew how bad they hurt till I started having them. I burst into tears seeing semis now. I can't open my eyes on highways. I love car rides! But now I can't even enjoy them.. I force myself to sleep each time I get in a vehicle.
That lady was only out to get money. I hope she gets whats coming for her. People like her are awful and need to realize life would be so much better if they would try to be nice for a chance. I feel like I'm loosing hope for humanity. Because all those rude and mean people are raising their kids to be the same way. Thats how bullys in school start and then lead to forcing others into suicide. I use to be super social and talk to anyone who spoke to me or even go out of my way for strangers. Now I try to avoid any and all contact with people I don't know. I tend to go off of body language now, fist impression thing. I hope all gets better for you! All these mean people need to be shown a mirror.

Don't know why people do what they do, but have decided it's in each person's heart and mind weather they're going to be evil or good. What goes around comes around.

Does anyone have acknowledgement on treating a dog for roundworms? Any information would help! Nova weighs 27 pounds.
My girl Nova vomited some food with roundworms in it the other day. I've never had this issue before. I don't see how my girl got them when she has been given de-worming/ prevention medication on the normal routine vet check up at every 3 months. Nova is turning 8 months old on the 26th. She was just given a wormer 2 months ago. I called the vet and they said the wormers sometimes don't always work. I've been paying $45 for each wormer for it not to work!?! She has had one at 8 weeks, 10 weeks, 12 weeks, 14 , 16 , 24 , and then her big girls wormer at 6 months old.
I gave Nova "8 in 1 safe-guard 4 Canine Dewormer" For the first time yesterday. It comes in 3 dosages for a 3 day period. I just gave her the second dosage and I haven't seen any worms come out. I didn't dig through her stools though. But before I gave her the de-wormer, she had solid light brown stools, now she has a dark green gooie/liquid stools.

I'm worried about Koda now. He is due for his next worming next week when he turns 8 weeks.

We use interceptor plus for our dogs and have never had an issue. It is a preventative for heartworms as well as other worms like round worms.

Had an interesting find in the quail cage today. Quail eggs are small to begin with, but this one is about 1/4 the size of a quail egg. Can't wait to crack it open, but still trying to figure out the best way to do it.

Here's what hatched last night & this morning.
All are orps; left to right: blue, lav, 2 laced, & a black in front

My blues this year look very dark. They look almost black at hatch but then some feathers grow in which also look like a light black. As the feathers get longer, the edges stay dark but the rest gets lighter.
Here's what my blue looked like in March & now:

I think I may also have hatched a mauve on Saturday from Jewel's egg. I won't know until some feathers grow in, but it's possible that Jewel is a very dark mauve. Her mom is Oopsie (who's a mauve) so it's possible. Her blue babies are the ones I mentioned above.

Ups and downs.....
We're going through some major flock changes right now. Last week, I sold Oopsie to a nice couple. They bought a black orp pullet from me earlier & really love her. They wanted another chicken & were going to buy my Welsummer hen. The Welsummer's sort of skittish & I didn't think that bird would be a good fit for their docile flock. Meanwhile poor Oopsie squats for all the roos & was bald-backed from over mating. She's such a gentle, sweet hen and I realized that she'd be happier in a flock without roosters. I admit I cried a little, but I know it was the best thing for my baby. Here's a pic I took the day we sold her.

Mr Dummy (my spectacular, perfect rooster) has been having difficulty walking. He's had a limp for the past few years but it really never prevented him from doing normal rooster activities. I've seen him just laying about this past week, so I know his leg is causing him pain. Last night he stopped walking all together. He didn't come over to me when I had treats. I kept him in the garage today & he's not really eating/drinking. I'm going to have to put him down. I'm trying to get enough strength together to do it sooner than to let him suffer, but I'm having problems. I'll probably have to have a friend do it for me.

Likewise, my 6yr-old hen Precious is not doing well. Her abdomen is so swollen and growing. She stopped laying in March. I couldn't feel an egg, but did a few epsom salt baths anyway. I also tried deworming in March, but I'm pretty sure by now that's she's been internally laying. Precious was one of my orig chickens and of course a favorite. (Right up there with Cuddles, my 1st lav orp) I lost Cuddles and still miss her, but I just can't imagine our backyard without my beloved Precious. I don't think I need to put her down yet. She's still doing her normal chicken things but she's slowly declining like Cuddles did.

I seem to be experiencing all the joys & sorrows of owning chickens all at the same time. I'm so excited about finally hatching some good-looking laced orps. I also hatched lavs & blues this year. I'm even enjoying DD's useless little chickens. However, I'm losing some of my long-time favorite feathered friends.

Oh the quail egg, I have had a few of those. Its all white and no yolk at least for me. Rare but it happens. Love those orps! Gorgeous babies! You did the right thing for Oopsie, I know how that feels. My Olive hates roosters. She is my last olive egger and will not breed a roo. I feel like she would be better off at a home without roosters. Mr Dummy and Precious, I am so sorry. Just know they appreciate you not letting them suffer. Its never easy but all part of keeping birds. Its funny during holidays when I talk to family about my birds. I get that look (are you crazy or what) and the eye rolls LOL. I don't keep a large flock anymore so they are really more like pets.
