Anyone have a broody I could borrow?

I get rather broody at times, but if I'm that way I doubt you want me around....lol

Crap! Ran to Orschelins with my mother today...... I now have 25 chicks. I'm done....I.....I...errrrr....I SWEAR....ish ... They were just all alone....just the 2 of them...and SO cute! Is there a shot to prevent this? Maybe a back entrance for chicken owners to bypass the chick cages? Can I contact our local government to demand this special entrance?

Perhaps special parking and a placard also???? Instead of a wheel chair on the space and placard it would have a chick with a red line across it...... somebody slap me so I won't be a smart aleck all afternoon....

Hey all, I know I've been asking a lot of questions but you just can get some answers from a book! So its nice out right now and we spend a lot of time with the chickens but in the winter when its cold out what do you all do to still get quality time with you flock without frost bite setting in? Are the chickens just as active in winter or do the hang inside the coop more? Thanks in advance I really appreciate this forum!

"How I Spent My Winter" It was interesting to go through the first winter with my flock. They wanted out of the coop everyday as usual even if the weather was bad. They really hated snow; I'm sure it's horrible to walk on with bare feet. : - ) We put straw down over the snow to make paths. As I mentioned in my health report, I took them out every day to our far back yard where's not fenced in so they had better picking. Luckily my next door neighbor had a large area of brush that turned into my winter project. She was happy to have the hens help me clear the area. I have a personal goal of ridding the earth of euonymos (winter creeper), so I am always digging, and the chickens love grabbing worms and the occasional prize of a cicada. As far as frostbite, we have a covered area over our walk-out basement that has outdoor carpeting, so they can always go there to hang out. Since they like to look in our glass door to the family room, I would lay old towels for them to stand on. Despite the fact that they had a heated coop*, they wanted to be out and about during the day (*one red warmer and one ceramic heat emitter -- both fixtures are secured in several places to a rafter by wrapping wire around them since light fixtures sometimes pop apart.) Sometimes I would pick them up and warm their feet with my warm hands.

Second day in the coop/run and another new experience. So, my chickens ARE NOT smart enough to come in out of the rain. Pouring down rain and I am out in the run tossing each chick into the chicken coop one at a time. They were running out faster than I could get them in. It was a whole comedy show, let me tell you!!!

So, another question for all of you more experienced chicken owners...

Do you make sure the chickens get into the coop when it rains? Or what is the plan at your house?

Myy girls are in a covered pen. The Turkey on the other hand, sleep uncovered come rain or shine.

Mine have a coop and a small covered run. They are waiting impatiently every morning when I let them out. The rooster doesn't go back in until dusk and the hens go back to lay eggs and then when he rounds the up when it's bedtime. Rain. Sleet and snow. Pretty tough birds.

They are still babies in a brand new world.

They will "smarten up" before long, but yes. Young chickens often need to be encouraged to go out to the run, return to the coop, come in out of the rain, etc,.. for just a short while. Then they will learn to do it on their own.

The only thing I have never had to show a chicken was the roost. They do that all on their own.

Mine stay out in the rain all the time. Look like drowned rats!
