INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Found this for 480 including tax, has 4 nesting boxes. Way better than the pre fab coop i was looking at that costs 500$. Do you think this would make a happy home? Or should I keep looking

I like it. Looks well constructed and you could connect a covered run for the chicks to play safely, protected from predators. How many chickens do you keep? And Welcome!

Hi! I am looking for some silkie bantam chickens to start with. I would like to get 5 at the most from local breeders before I have to go the hatchies and be forced to order more. As far as the colors go I would like to get the blue and black. But I would settle for the buff and/or white color silkie. Thanks to all who can help. Ashley in Indiana.

Oh you are going to love Silkies. I will be hatching eggs in the spring from my girls. At present I have one little white Silkie, some Silkie/d'Uccle mixes and mille fleur d'Uccles that are all 7 weeks old. Good luck on your search for these fun, pretty chicks.

I would get in touch with Little Ameraucana Mom. They raise beautiful silkies!

You can use any grain food you want even corn. You can ferment any feed for just about any animal. Fermenting your grains is supposed to increase your protein by 12%, increase the absorption of your feed nutrients, increase total nutrient value, increase bowel health, increase laying performance, help prevent disease~particularly the intestinal ones like cocci, salmonella, e.coli, lower total feed consumption and thus total feed costs but will cause more weight gain on the lesser amounts of feed. It will make your chicken poop smell better as well so your coop wont smell as bad.
Are there any negatives to it? Seems like so many positives, why isn't everyone doing it?

The only negative i can think of would be its a little more messy. As far as people doing it... there's a lot of people doing it. Just type in fermenting feed in the search at the top and you will finds lots of post about it. Jchny2000 that is on here also feeds with it. Here is a good link to find out more about it. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/644300/fermenting-feed-for-meat-birds this says meat birds but you can use this method with just about any animal.
