INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

We had a very stressful afternoon, Remington my dog has become more a pet than a LGD. Dad let him out (I ask him not to) and he was off his tie out lead. All the fresh snow, Remi decided it was play time! I'm 100% against any dog being off lead unless they are contained in a fence. 4 of us trying to find him, and Dad was in tears very upset. I assured Dad its OK Remi just wanted to run and play. Lets not let him out like that again.

Remi had went over to our new neighbor's property. I grabbed his food dish and told him "time for dinner" and he came right in. Whew! I told our new neighbor Dads got our house cat Jax and our dog Remi for companionship. Apologized he was there, they thought he was too sweet. Its still not OK a stray dog can be a predator. I was very embarrassed and upset this happened. I've lost goats to stray dogs in the past. Remington is a gentle sweet dog, but this works both ways.

Glad it all worked out okay, and sorry for your EE loss. Hope your OE and duck make a quick return as well.

They're here! Belle is the Great Pyrenees, Eve is the larger Nubian doe. I have to check with my friend again on the buck and younger doe's names. Already LOVE this dog!
ETA apologize for the poor pictures, I was trying to get bedding down over all the mud out here.

It was beautiful today! Couldn't have had a better day for the long trip south and back. The ground is still froze pretty hard by my garden, so we couldn't get our Premier 1 fence up & drive fence posts for the hoop house. I put my new Nubian herd in the dog kennel 10x20ft for tonight. Hopefully it will thaw enough by tomorrow to get them set up.
Remi was very excited to meet Belle! We did the "see don't touch" method to introduce, both on leash and separate handlers. They were also separated with a chain link fence. I want to make sure Belle knows Remi belongs here. I'll repeat this a couple times a day while she settles in. I watched her interaction with the chickens & cats at my friend's house, all running around under her and in her food dish lol.. I've read good and bad about the breed, but my DIL adores her fella. So far my only dread is all that fur!
Last hatch for a while is Saturday. These are the mystery dark brown eggs that came in the mail, no return address. I do plan to hatch EE this spring but probably less than a dozen. I'm very impressed with the brooding plates from premiere. Its adding more space to the brooder, the chicks jump on top. Yes its messy, ugh but Its nice to not worry about heat lamps anymore. I just wipe the top of the plate clean with antibacterial wipes.

One of my girls looks like her head feathers are frayed on the ends... maybe I am just seeing things but has anyone ever encountered this?

I just bought 2 plastic heat lamps from premier.https://www.premier1supplies.com/p/prima-heat-lamp?cat_id=132

and thesehttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GCFVRYW/?tag=backy-20

as cold as it was my birds did not seem cold. I also have 2 cozy heaters. I would like to have sweet heaters, but they are $$. I have to get the electrician out, because occassionally my coop circuit pops. Let me know what you think of these heating options. I did buy a radiant oil filled heater from rural king, just in case.

Shermeen here from Bloomington.
6 kids, last one just done with 10 years 4-h. 7 royal palm, 4 muscovies, 4 barnvelders, 4 austrolorps, 4 salmon favoralles and 3-4 assorted hens. To be honest, these are all left over from when my kids were in 4-h so some of my birds are pretty old. I have a 9 year old austrolorp. I had thought about breeding the royal palm, but I don't think breeding to the parents is ideal. I would also need another coop for turkeys and I am not handy. # of my palms are male. One is very old, the other 2 , 3 yrs and 1, 7 months.

@jchny2000 Love your new dog!!!!!! I assume he will stay outside as a guardian?
Thanks! Yes, Belle is 100% LGD. She will live outside with her goat herd 24/7.

I've seen that with some of my birds before. How long ago did she molt, feathers may have wear on them.
