INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Some day I'm going to get one of these bushes. I've been drooling over yours for years!

Remember when I said our new little bush was doing great?

Well the gas company decided to change that by putting in a new line to the house! I even sent DH out there to talk with them. Basically if they needed to dig near it (notice the flag in the pic above?), then we'd like them to scoop it out & we'll replant out back. They assured DH that they could easily work around it.

That hole is about 8' DEEP! Strange that they put in the new sidewalk around Memorial Day only to rip some back up now.

Meanwhile our other bush became a parent. The kids love to spit seeds & our front lawn had many little sprouts. I dug some up & will plant out back.

The cherry bush is not grafted, but it's probably a hybrid. Not sure what will grow, but they're free & may offer some hawk protection to the flock.

You're little bush will probably do just fine right there where they dug around it. If you would have moved it, it would have suffered the same amount of root loss, or maybe more. Hopefully this will be it for the utility work there.

I'm having a strange urge to have quail eggs. I have no quails, so that's problematic.
Does anyone have quails and chickens living together? Even more specific, can one quail survive with a flock of 8 chickens? Would the chickens pick on it?

I've been thinking about quails too, but it will have to be in the future. I know that people keep them separate from other poultry and they can't be kept loose to free range like chickens.

There are some that lay blue eggs!

Hi, all! I haven't posted much here lately, but I have a bit of a dilemma I was hoping some others in the northeast part of the state could help with? I need feed recommendations for a mixed flock of poultry. Would prefer pelleted feed, 18-20% protein, and no higher than ~4% fat and ~2% max calcium, but, honestly, I'm open to any recommendations at this point.

I've been feeding Nutrena's all-flock for years, but apparently they've decided to pull it from the shelves, repackage it as a specialty feed, and hike the price. :hmm Right now, I'm on my last bag and a half, so I've been hunting the past few days for other feeds. I grabbed a bag of Kalmbach flock maker (20% protein, 3.5% fat, ~1.5-2% calcium, if I remember correctly) yesterday, which I thought would be perfect, but the bag had grain mites crawling on it this morning. Today, I found Nutrena gamebird mix at the Big R in Warsaw, which is 21% protein and comparable in calcium and fat to their all-flock, but I'm expecting it to be pulled and relabeled, too, so I'd like a backup. Both nearby TSCs have grain mite problems with all their feeds, which seems to have stemmed from their Purina Flock Raiser bags, so that's out, too, as far as I'm concerned. I'm just at a loss at this point. :barnie Help?
