INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I run my dogs along the fenceline to place their marks too. But unlike you, so far my husband is uncooperative. I guess I could do it, but doubt I could get away with it discretely...lol.

Fortunately, my Labrador Retriever marked the area several times today. I may have contributed. I am told that will deter coyotes. Kinda icky, but I am told, effective. If not, I may be sharing your problems.

John

Does this actually work for you guys? Even with all the dogs I have marking (10 plus within the last 3 to 5 months) and 4 marking daily, I still have a roving pack of coyotes that like to come right up under my window and yip. In the summer we sleep with the windows open and they have woken me at least twice a month since April. I am assuming they are coyotes,as I have never in my life heard a dog yip, and because it happens in the very early morning.

I thought I would share with you guys, I took a new dog into my rescue! It was against my better judgement as she is a pit/bulldog mix, but she really needed me. She has not been doing well with the other dogs, so she is currently living it up in the guest room. We've been switching the dogs out every 2 hours, so for two she's with us, two she's in her room with toys, etc. Maybe she'll scare off the coyotes?

Shawna she is a cutie... mine is a lab mix/pit

anyone know a good place to get her spayed?

I'm just jumping in a minute to say THANK YOU to Quinstar who has been adding new members and their info this week. I normally do that during the weekdays, but have been busy with work and making avatars and didn't want to get behind on the list. I had not realized that when I asked Quinstar for help, she was in the middle of moving!! She insisted on helping anyway since spreadsheets come naturally to her-- unlike me.

We welcome new members and are happy to add info and make avatars!

I was wondering if anybody here happens to raise satin rabbits? I want to get back into rabbits and thats the breed ive picked just having trouble finding some.

We are about 5 miles from water the spray is working going to have to get something to hang in coop. Chickens love spray some have a lot of sores anything to put on them?
Glad to hear it helps!

The first time I heard that gnats were killing chickens I was extremely skeptical. Then they hit us. While I didn't lose any birds that first year, I did have some pigeons badly affected.

This year I hadn't given them a thought until last Tuesday when I put a 1 month old chicken in an outdoor brooder. 5 hours later it was dead and crawling with the buffalo gnats. There were no gnats when I put him outside, they came that quickly. Both people and animals can have severe allergic reactions to their bites.

I have heard so many sad stories of people losing everything to these gnats. Please spread the word and make as many poultry owners as you can aware of them.

Okay, so it's the smell that repels them and not anything in the extract? I was thinking about those guys right after you made your first post about them and wondering why I had never seen them or had problems with them getting at my birds. There are lots of bushes with flowers on them around the coop, and I was marveling the other day at the fact that it smelled like vanilla out there, so now I'm wondering if that's why.
I guess so. We live in the woods and everything is in bloom, but we are still fighting the gnats. I just spray them daily. I have heard of a lot of people using car air fresheners, too.

We have a creek in the backyard and a 6 acre pond so they definitely have a water source.

Would you be able to post a picture of them? Those bugs are really "bugging" us all, especially my dog. I am getting ready to make a spray that I saw on Facebook page called Fresh Eggs Daily today with white vinegar, orange, vanilla, and something else- cinnamon I think, but it takes 10 days to make. Plants are faster to get. Thank you for the idea.
The first year I used vanilla carpet spray and vanilla body mist from Bath & Body Works when they hit. Then I ran to Walmart for cheap vanilla. Mix it with water in a spray bottle.

The Dollar Tree has bottles of car freshener oil and huge bottles of vanilla scented oil for..... wait for it..... ONE DOLLAR!

It works wonders on a dryer sheet hung on a window. Or you can use a drop or two on a tissue tucked in your clothing for personal bug protection.

I have also heard of Avon's Skin So Soft doing the trick, but I have not tested that.
