INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

If I were building a Quail Cage, I would follow Chic-n-farmer's suggestions to the letter. He obviously knows of what he speaks.

Tell him how many chicks and ask what size for the cage.
I used to be cheap and fast. Nowadays, not so fast.

You flatter me, sir.

I only know what has worked for me, but if you could put that in writing for my husband and kids I would appreciate it!

And yes, I am a girl and therefore very jealous of your ability to discretely mark territory.

I don't know about numbers x size for quail. Some people keep them in breeding trios, but I prefer groups. They can be vicious to each other
and territorial. The cage I just built was 7' x 3' and just 10" tall and houses 11 quail. My reasons for building that size was that I had a piece of leftover 1/4" hardware cloth that size to use as a bottom. ( I really hate cutting hardware cloth) The pen is working great with no bullying going on.

There is a quail forum on here, so I would advise checking there for info.

I think they are adorable. Do any of you sheer your alpacas to spin yarn? I was curios about how difficult it is? I'm a yarnaholic! I crochet and am learning to knit and love love the texture of handspun or homespun yarn.

We're just newbies with our alpacas -- got them the beginning of April. We do have the fiber from their spring shearing & I'm hoping to learn how to process it into roving & perhaps later learn to spin. So many projects, so little time!

I definatly no how that is. Lol iv been reading about different fibers and like that alpacas hypoallergenic but just as warm as wool. I hear its a little harder to spin bc its so soft. But if you get it all figured out id love to hear your experience.

I'd love to share what I do, but don't hold your breath waiting -- you might pass out before I get around to starting even! And I'll be lucky to get even half of figured out, let alone all of it!

Seriously, the fiber is really soft & I've also heard that it's even warmer than wool, but not itchy. Ask me again in a few months if I've made any progress -- maybe I'll be extra motivated if I have people to be accountable to

ok I will not hold my breath lol but I will wait in anticipation lol yes softer, warmer, hypoallergenic and you don't have to dye it unless you want. Iv not got to use yarn spun from alpaca ( I can't think of what its called) bc Im picky! I don't want to just buy some bc that's what they say it is. Iv been watching for someone to sell it locally or semi locally? No luck yet. But if anyone else noes where to get it please share! And I will ask in a few months to see how its coming along. But I don't want to hound you. Lol
