INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

The finer the sand in the coop the better, from my experience. It's easier to sift out the droppings from fine sand than it is from somewhat gravely sand. I use sand, myself, and I love that it's not only easy for me to clean out, but gives the girls somewhere to dustbathe when it's rainy out. The sifted out droppings can go into the compost and the older sand can go right out into the chicken yard to help keep down any muddiness. :)

I love it when my chickens dustbathe. It is fun to watch them. I had an RIR she would lay in this hole she had dug and every so often would roll around and that is the only spot she would ever dustbathe. She also followed my around like a lost puppy or lost chicken lol. (her name was follower)

Aw. :love My girls love to do mass dustbaths when they find just the perfect spot. I call it their spa. :D

Ok so I done some color research and Alphe is a Black Cochin and Lemonie is a white Cochin. The only weird thing is that they both came from same parents so how is that possible the the 2 black parents can have a white baby oh and I have another one coming and then ill have 1 left ... I think ill have a good hatch rate :) but the babys are healthy and walking around

Recessive white maybe? I believe black is dominant and can hide things like recessive white, but both parents would have to be carriers in order for you to get a white chick from them. (This is from my very basic knowledge of chicken color genetics, so I am probably way off. )

We're north of you by about 2 hours up 421. I could drive up to a half hour to meet you with him if you want to drive the rest of the way. He's too pretty to process, so I'd like to find him a home.

Sounds like about $40 worth of fuel. Thanks for the offer, but I must decline. You are right about his looks, pity. I hope you find a good home for him.

John
