INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Just got a phone call little bit ago. Work called and told me not to report to work tonight or tomorrow. Im on indefinite layoff. They told me to call back monday morning to see whats going on. They shut down a big line in our plant.

That stinks, I hope it works out for you. Not too sure how good unemployment is now with all of the cuts but it might be worth looking into this weekend and filing once you know more.

Oh i see how it is now! Im not at work now and i have time to chat on here and nobody is on here talking. When i was working i would come home to like 40 post to catch up on. LOL Tomorrow is lockdown on 31 chicks. WOW what am I going to do with 31 chicks. I didnt think this many would make it this long. Out of 35 1 infertile and 3 died early on.

31 chicks, plus all those other eggs in less than a month. I would love to see your brooder set up.
And I'm sure that people are selling chicks on craigs list. $2-3 for mutts. who knows maybe you could make some money hatching eggs. just enough to feed the chicks you keep.

Cluck acres- that's awful. Hope they don't keep you off too long. But maybe you can find something even better!! My DH got laid off about 4 yrs ago and has managed to find a better job. Hang in there! And I'd go with selling chick- you are obviously good at it!;)

Incubating requires a complicated math formula called EGGEBRA.

It is quite difficult and often leads me into trouble when eggs transform into actual chicks.

Last year an Eggebra miscalculation caused me to hatch nearly 40 Khaki Campbells. (and about 300 chicks)

Of course I sold a lot as show birds and at swap meets, which means I probably broke even of the feed....

But you know how the saying goes:

" The way to make a small fortune in the poultry business is to start out with a large fortune".

Quote: My spike does that Houdini trick to me occasionally. I finally figured out her hidey spot after a few months. Now i grab her attitude up and won't let her range when she pulls that on me, scares me to death! She is my favorite (chicken) girl.
