INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

We went to Rural King yesterday. We are going to try our hand at raising our own Thanksgiving turkey this year.. but all they has so far was their chicks, no guineas, ducks or turkeys. Not for another 3 weeks...

I can hardly wait!!

I had a few more pips last night. So far I think 5 have piped. One has piped on skinny side of egg and this morning i looked and it has a big hole out and a tare in the membrane and can see its beak every once in awhile. Some say most wont make it when they pip at skinny side of egg but this one is fighting and trying to get out. My little cochin has piped as well.

I have had several people get ahold of me about buying chicks off me. I told them they are mutts and wont know hatch rate till the day they hatch also they are straight run and would buy back roos if they didnt want to keep them. I am selling my chicks for $2

Here is few pics of pips. First pic is the chick that piped at skinny end.

The second one is more towards the skinny end too but the shell is cracking. The egg below is piped as well but cant see it on the pic.

well i started another batch of eggs in my incubator thursday. does anyone sell the chicks that they hatch out?? i have been approached about buying some newly hatched chicks but i just don't know what to tell them. firstly, i have no way to gauruntee how many chicks they would get from a hatch. secondly i have no way to determine what they would get (pullet or roos).
i've thought about having a set rate for a number of eggs i set and you get what you get. does anyone have any experience?!?!? also after my next set of chicken eggs i'm hoping to set some duck eggs!! never tried that before though, heard it was like shickens just longer and i need to mist the eggs periodically. that about right?

thanks for all of your help
My situation is somewhat different, as what I hatch are generally from my show stock. I like to keep those long enough to choose the ones that I want. Sometimes a barnyard hen will go broody and I'll let her sit on the eggs to see what I get. Even then I don't sell them for about 6-8 weeks--so much can happen with babies and I don't want people coming back at me that I didn't sell healthy chicks. My peafowl have to be at least 3 months before I'll sell; generally by that time any defects will have already killed them.
I usually guarantee the health for two weeks after purchase; after that time the buyer is responsible. Sometimes with kids I'll replace up to a month because they're so devastated when their chicken dies.
Of course, if you have lots of chicks especially barnyard types, by all means sell the newbies as straight run rather than feed them. I would make no guarantee then.

Sure, I don't see why not, especially since you are trying to sell locally. Very pretty birds
