INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I am good for a rooster. I just got myself some new chicks and already looks like one is a roo, hoping I get at least a 3 out of 3 for hens. With my RIR roo currently crowing at 5pm (sure my neighbours are loving it). I do not have room for anymore. You could list on on Craigslist for money and if you have no luck... Offer him for free.

My RIR girls just started laying about a month ago. Their egg colours vary still from a nice deep brown to a light almost pink looking egg occationally they are speckled too. The sizes are on average medium but I do get some jumbo eggs. Which they should all start laying here soon. Yay!

I think 3 of my RIR hens are laying but that leaves 19 just eating and eating feed. I have 2 RIR roos. My other rooster is super pretty but scared to death of everything. now one of the craigslist chickens is a boy too.

I am sure they will all start laying soon enough. I have noticed on the colder days I get less eggs. I have 9 girls and I have been getting anything from 4 to 8 a day. Still not quite in the swing of things, but not doing too bad.

Try and find someone to buy your egss from you, that will help offset some of the feed costs. I have a friend just put in an order for 4 dozen which I am selling for $2 a dozen. If I had known she was going to be putting an order in for more I should have asked for $3 a dozen which I think is still a fair price.

If I can sell 8 dozen a month that pays for a bag of feed.

I have talked to a few people about buying the eggs. What is your method for the eggs you sell? do you wash and chill them or sand them and leave them at room temp?

pbirdhaven Thanks so much for the incubator. I don't have enough large eggs yet but maybe by Saturday I will have collected enough to try one out. Thanks so much.

Never heard back from you. Not sure if you just didn't see my post or weren't interested in the frizzled cochin anymore.

I think you are waiting on someone else. But truthfully I did miss your first post, copied below to show who you are waiting on.

Looking for a FRIZZLE ROOSTER near NW Indiana. Anybody got any leads for me? thanks!
I just picked up my frizzled cochin roo today from a guy in NW IN. Bought pair from him and they are adorable. PM me and I will get you his info.
