INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hearing all this fun stuff about watching chicks hatch makes me want to build one more and more....
I saw one of my girls rolling eggs around the nest before laying on them, I was dead excited hoping she would go broody. She looked all professional pulling straw around her, making things more comfortable.

No such luck!

So eggcited, just candled 3 random eggs from the bator, I have babies growing. Happy dance and my son is having a fit that his class will get to share this with him for his science project. 1 of the eggs redeveloping is from my Colombian pair, happy to see it growing,

just think how many chicks you will have by the end of the year if you keep that incubator working non stop. btw we are up to 25 now. hopefully we will be in the new house in a week or so. :)

Nice idea for the egg turner motor cluckacres.

Just curious, how are you going to provide the dc power?

In ranndom brain fluctuations I've podered the idea of usig r/c airplane servo's to tilt the trays, and a rechargable battery to operate them.
I was also reading through some old chicken books and saw a 'bator that looked like the cardboard separaters for a case of beer(basically a grid of cardboard) that sat on top of a pulley/canvas sheet that rotated slowly, constantly turning the eggs, but the eggs sta in place due to the cardboard.

I've been curious to the extent of the "turninng", is just tipping the egg carton from one side to the other enough, or does the eggs need to be handled a bit and turned or spun in the container?

I would think the motor would draw too many amps and burn out the charger, but I'm not an electrician.

Car windows are heavy, and take a decent amount of amp's to run, that being said, without the weight of the glass, it might even throw the eggs!

I'm just curious, as I'm tryinng to come up with the same type of idea.

I just want to make sure this is not uncommon, to help ease my mind. I had one araucana pip yesterday in the afternoon at day 20 and hatch overnight (was still wet when I woke up at 7 and still drying out). The other eggs have not pipped (well maybe a marans but cant see for sure) but I do see a couple wiggle or peep occasionally. I know it is only day 21 so they aren't late, just found it odd that the one has come out sooner than the others.

Note to self: do not set eggs so they are scheduled to hatch on your days off! The anticipation is killing me!

My girls are starting to pick up with their laying. I have 6 more silkie eggs sitting on the counter and my ameracauna has laid 2 more but I put hers in the fridge. I can't tell if the ones from her in the bator are fertile or not. I was hoping that a few were but I think the boys are afraid of her because she is bigger than them. If I don't get any from her this time, I'll try again.
Let me know when you have a few extra splash or paint eggs you want to part with or a few from your showgirl, I haven't seen Blue breeding yet. I really need to get them in their own pens pretty soon. My eggs are mixed colors. I was trying to find a few more grey or Colombia hens but I'm not having any luck. I can't wait to see what tour new silkies from Judy look like.

I have about 24 silkie eggs in the bators right now and I know I will not be keeping them all. I have cuckoo, silver partridge, partridge/blue partridge, porcelain, buff, whites, blacks, and blues all incubating. Hoping I get a nice mix of eggs hatch.
