INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I have about 24 silkie eggs in the bators right now and I know I will not be keeping them all. I have cuckoo, silver partridge, partridge/blue partridge, porcelain, buff, whites, blacks, and blues all incubating. Hoping I get a nice mix of eggs hatch.
If you have any cuckoo you want to sell, I'd be interested in them. We had one a few years ago , but it has past, and my daughter wants some more.

Wish me luck I'm at the drs to see if I have an ulcer or cancer (from birthcontrol) or nothing

I'm hoping its nothing
Will be praying it is nothing serious !!

! I am from Indy as well but we don't have a coop up yet. Still getting some ideas on where and what to build it. Sounds like a good flock you got. We feed our chicks n ducklings chick starter and mealworms oh and babycake. They are not to crazy about the babycake, but they LOVE the mealworms! lol! Ashley in Indiana.

I'm sure we could work something out ;). None of the Cornish made it to lockdown, so ill definitely be hitting you up when they are laying better. I think there are 8 cuckoo eggs so if they all hatch, I know ill be getting rid of a few

Wow, it's been busy on here!

Gotta tell this story. Went out last night to lock up the chicken pen. Slipped in the snow and yes I broke my arm!!! So now w everybody is blaming the chickens for my downfall!! Pun intended. I've fallen off horses, been bucked off horses. Fallen in creeks and ponds. And many other accidents. Out to simply lock up and say goodnight and finally got my first broken bone! Knew it had to happen sometime.
FYI: Chickens were my downfall, too.

Nice idea for the egg turner motor cluckacres.

Just curious, how are you going to provide the dc power?

In ranndom brain fluctuations I've podered the idea of usig r/c airplane servo's to tilt the trays, and a rechargable battery to operate them.
I was also reading through some old chicken books and saw a 'bator that looked like the cardboard separaters for a case of beer(basically a grid of cardboard) that sat on top of a pulley/canvas sheet that rotated slowly, constantly turning the eggs, but the eggs sta in place due to the cardboard.

I've been curious to the extent of the "turninng", is just tipping the egg carton from one side to the other enough, or does the eggs need to be handled a bit and turned or spun in the container?

To power the motor i will use a old cell phone charger. My chargers have a output of 12 volts. So works out good. Just tipping the eggs from side to side is enough that way they dont get stuck to the shell.

Thank for post this info about nap town chickens Mother2hens! I didn't know they were that close to me!

I'm on the east side in downtown Indy. I will have to find out when they are doing the tours and maybe meet some of the local chicken people
