INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I know this is off subject but i am so ready for Easter to be over!! That's when the chicks will go on sale. I love getting new chicks but i hate to pay out the nose for them. last year I got 57( 16 straight run and 41 pullets) white leghorns for $32. Hope I can do something like that again this year!!!

Bacon... I heard coyote pelts were actually selling high this year. My neighbour traps for the DNR, I will ask him later if he know where is the best place to sell them. I know he asked my hubby to go hunting with him for them this year.

Hey vickichicki, would you post that info on here when you ask your hubby? We have them bad down here too and I would love to get rid of a few.
Thanks!
Brenda

I'm warming up mu still air incubator. Any hints for incubating using a still air incubator. I read the hatching 101 link. At least the basics on the page. I skipped some of the more detailed stuff for now. The eggs were not shipped so that should make it easier as there was a whole section about treating shipped eggs special.

Vickichicki- sorry you lost one. I've only lost adults at this point but its hard!
-also we would like the coyote info too. We hear them almost nightly sounds like 4-5. And we had that one a few weeks ago in the fiields right below the house.

went to RK in Greensburg for horse and dog food, I swear that was it, they had a new shipment of chicks . Large variety . Including Phoenix!!! So cute!! Tons of ameraucanas. And some ducks. I was in TSC last night and was talking to this gal who works there, said they had 1200 chicks come in the order last week and will have 1400 this week!! People were waiting in lines in both places for chicks!! DH has been teasing me about my "obsession", then today he was like" oh, everybody's doing this!!"

I have pretty good results with my still air, kepp the thermometer at 102 on top of the eggs. i don't worry about humidity. i usually fill my reservoirs once about day 10 when i candle. and then i really get the humidity up at lockdown with paper towels rolled and sticking out of the reservoirs. patients is the key!! and good luck...remember one bad hatch doesn't mean you'll always have bad hatches.

Brad, can you tell if there's an internal pip to the air sac yet?
Got home and one chick was stuck. Humidity was down in the bator currently hatching chicks. I took the egg and helped the chick out and placed in other hatcher to dry out. I grabbed the silkie egg that was still alive this morning and re candled. Appears to still be alive and doesn't look to be pipped into air sac. So I placed in the hatcher that currently has chicks hatching and increased humidity in that bator to help the chicks currently hatching. Ill have to double chck but I think there are 5 birchen Marans out, the single lav Orp, and 2 ameraucanas. Still waiting on one more Ameraucana, several silkies, several more Marans, Swedish flower hens, and I believe a coronation Sussex (not sure if it was alive prior to lockdown). I am much happier with this hatch than the previous!

Got the floor on the coop! Hurray for DH's help! I also finally put a door on the exterior nesting boxes. I want to paint it sooo bad, but should wait til temps are better outside. Chickens loved the floor. They were moving the straw around like crazy. I also left a window open on the east side, shouldn't get too cold tonight here. Said 44. Can't wait to open all the windows for them
