I like the chicken chick! She's a member here on byc too.

Your SFH are gorgeous, Leah's Mom!

I finally started fermenting; used cracked corn to begin with til I see how it goes. A question, though: do you feed the fermented feed in a separate container or mix it with the dry feed?

I feed it in a separate container. But if you want to stir in some dry at feeding time you could do that too. Occasionally I do that.

I used to keep dry feed available at all times in addition to the ff (especially as they were getting used to the new ff) . Now I might put some out a couple times a week... Many people don't offer a choice at all.

First off I want to give my condolences to Seabrights mom. She had a fire today in one of her coops and lost around 50 chickens. She had chicks in there and her sons show chickens. So please everyone keep her in your prayers. She is really upset right now. I feel so bad for her because there is nothing she could of done for them. She believes her heat lamp that was keeping chicks warm started it. Everyone please go out to your coops and brooders and take extra precautions on where your heat lamps are and make sure they are secure and wont get knocked down! I myself went to my brooder thats in my barn and made sure it was secure and it wasnt as much as i liked it so i secured it more. Also make sure your heat lamp or anything that is electric does not have a short in it to cause a fire. If you have a facebook page please go to her farms page and leave your condolences. We are all like family on here and Im sure we all care about each other. Thanks.

she has appreciated all the comments. Helps to know people care. She lost all her chicks and baby turkeys (except for the one still at my house) Biggest lost was losing her porcelian silkies and Matthews show chickens.

OMGoodness...I totally missed this somehow. We also had our byc friend lose her barn and many birds and animals just shortly ago. She is in process rebuilding.

PS on the fermented feed - it really cuts down on the amount of feed after they get used to it. It seems that they get way more nutrition out of less which is an added bonus for the pocketbook!
X2 with over 100+ birds, trust me it helps!
