INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

We are originally from Cali and Portland OR. So we don't know many people here in the mid west. We've only been in Princeton 1 year
Why would you move to Indiana? I'd rather live in California or Portland. Have you seen the TV series "Portlandia"? It's great.

Quote from Chick-n-farmer: I heard that someone dumped water in two stock tanks of chicks at the Terre Haute Rural King yesterday.

I hope RK has it recorded on camera!!! That is so sick.

well this is just great i went to go check my chickens and found 4 of my 5 brahmas have blood on the feathered feet ....3 are really bad 1 has blood on her chest 1 has a swoolen foot (think it might be bumblefoot) and 1 has no more feathered feet :/ ugh i feel like my flock is falling apart :/ oh and to add more blood to this story my dog has a scratched nose and was bleeding on my porch this week is going to be hard

Murray McMurray does the rare chick too. I have never used Meyer, but have heard good things about them as well. Actually planning on getting geese from Meyer next year. Ooops, no I will be getting the geese from Metzer. So many names!

My post had a typo in it.  It should have said I have heard good things about Murray and they give out the rare chick.  Meyer gives out the extra chick as a meal maker.

My "rare chick" in last years order was a bantam black Cochin. Pretty and sweet but not exactly rare. Lol

I'm looking at buying an incubator, but I was wondering do they ever go on sale?  Maybe there is a certain time of the year when they go on clearance like out of season shoes.

Brinsea.com runs sales and there coupon codes too that help. Use TheChickenChick - cap sensitive for 10% off.

Husband got up and said he wants to finish the coop today! We finally decided just to convert my shed. It's bigger than the coop we were going to build so, I should get more chickens, right!?!?!

We get up every day and say we want to finish the coop today. Lol Then life happens...but we keep making progress. ;)

Look over your your chickens good. Maybe only 1 is injured and just got blood on all the others. Take the one that is bleeding and if its too bad put some flour on the wound to stop the bleeding. Give all the chicks baths and make sure they are dry. If one is injured on the foot clean it up and put some of your wrap on it. If 1 chick is bleeding the others will be attracted to it and peck at it.

Well.......he tore down a wall.....and is fiddling with the mower now...! He should just hand over the hammer and fencing, I'd knock it out by dusk! He's one of those manly man types though. Just call him Tarzan *sigh*
maybe tomorrow.....

Caught my first opossum of the season. I leave a live trap out with meat all the time and found a Juvinile opossum in there this morning.

Wish I had a camera with me...I had gone out to open the gate to the range area and all the chickens ran to the fence...the trap was just on the other side of the fence.

So there was a line-up of 5 or 6 adult chickens along the fence looking out at that opossum that was in a trap just on the other side. I told them not to get too friendly...

....He just smiled at them
