INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

My first thought (with my one year of experience) is Ameraucana (purebred, I'm sure-haha). I looked up what a chick looks like and here's an example:

I'm very new to chickens, but it looks just like my chick Peanut Butter looked when we brought him/her home. Peanut Butter was sold as an Ameraucana, but I have since been told he/she is an Easter Egger. Here are a couple of pics.
Peanut Butter is in the middle.
This was last week. Still don't know if its a cockrel or a pullet, but its pretty.

OHHH, I have been wanting one of those. If it lays olive colored eggs some day, that would be cool. Supposedly, they come from crossing a maran with any blue egg laying bird ie, Ameraucana, Araucana, Easter Egger...

umm, don't shoot the noobie. Are those hackle feathers on Peanut butter? the funny skinny looking feathers on the back of the neck?

I get to play this game with my 8 in the next few weeks

When do the roo's start trying to make noise? I am at 7-10 weeks with my chicks and still NONE of them have tried to make crowing noises. I was just wondering if I am out of the woods, or if I still need to wonder if there could be males in my flock?

I'm new too, so I can't really tell you. I'm still hoping that its a she, but I've resigned myself that it might be a he as the coloring seems to be common mostly to roos. None of my chicks are crowing yet, but I think its just a matter of time.

It just depends. I have some older roos that hardly crow. I have some younger ones that are around 3 months and still no crow but i know they are roos. Plus if they are around other roos that do crow then they will pick up on that and might start to crow.

No kidding! I'm lucky I'm still single at this point and get everything I want know before I'm told I can't lol. I love building things! If I'm ever in the area, I'd be happy to help you build a coop. I actually am going to be building some breeder coops and runs off my main coop. I'm going to run them in a series all connected. It's going to run parallel to the main coop about 5' away. I'm going to extend the roof of the main coop over this 5' walkway but also over the breeder pens. This way I can be sheltered from weather when working out there, but also drive the mower with dump cart through as I shovel out the old bedding. Trying to make it as easy as possible lol. Coops are going to be about 4x5 or 5x5 for a trio or quad with a pen of 5x12 with them having access under the coop for shade. I'm still debating if I want to use pallets or just build it the "traditional" way. Obviously pallets are free, but almost seem like more work to make them work.
Enjoy your lifestyle while you can! haha That's great that you are doing things that you love--- designing, building, and enjoying your flocks. Thanks for the building help offer, but I only have so much room in a subdivision with .75 acre. A little over a year ago, we thought about downsizing from our house and yard, but then my youngest daughter brought 6 chicks home and that changed everything! (Then she left for college!) Now that DH & I are chicken people (with cats and one squirrel) I'd like a smaller house, but larger property. The problem is that we have so much STUFF that I hate the thought of dealing with moving. It's probably good that we are limited to a small flock or I'd be coming home with new chicks all the time like most people on this Thread!

Blank Maps Available
I posted this info below earlier, and am still happy to provide a map with a certain county and/or create an avatar for anyone by incorporating the map with another picture. Although the two maps I am attaching look the same on screen, the first is a larger size and the second is an avatar size in case anyone would rather create their own.

Indiana County Map for instant member location
If anyone would like a map of your county, like the one on my avatar and on vickichicki's, I will be happy to provide one. Just PM me. I've mentioned this in a recent post that it would be helpful if members, if they wished, used a little map icon with their county in red because you could quickly glance and see where the member who is posting is from. When I read posts, many times I think "Now where are they from?" I look at the city and still have no idea what part of the state they're from.

As I said before, I wish the little map icon could be placed under the member's icon below the last line where it shows if someone is online or offline. I doubt that would be approved by the BYC people. The next best choice is placing it as photo album icon like jchny's "My Flocks." At least if someone clicked on the map, it would enlarge. I cannot find the directions on how to add a photo album icon, (if anyone knows, please let me know). If someone wants a combo map and a chicken or an animal, I can put that together for you, just PM me.

BYC Indiana Google Map for detailed information
Cluck set up a cool Indiana BYC Google map: Hello you have seen the previous post about BYC members on Google Maps. Well I have made 1 for just us INDIANA BYC'ers. All you have to do is go to this link....http://goo.gl/maps/UShV6 . Here are the directions. You will see the state of Indiana.. Zoom in to where you live and then click on the red button that says Edit. After you click Edit you will see a hand, blue pin point and a zig zag line on the map. Click the pin point and drag it to where you live on the map. After you have placed your pin point then click on it and you can edit your decription by adding your county. If you want to change your blue pin point to another icon or upload your own then up on the right of that box click the pin point icon and choose others or upload your own icon. If anyone has problems with this feel free to ask.

Here's a screen shot of the Google Map:

Fermented feed question.
I opened my loose covered bucket today to stir it and it was covered with a light skin of what looked like mold.
It bubbled when I stirred it but is this normal or did it go bad somehow?
