INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

bradselig~ I just PMd you a map with your county. Don't feel like you have to use it. It's just an option.

mememe~ The fermented food you described does not sound good. jchny2000 should be on this Thread later, or you could go ahead and PM her.

Sudden Storm!
We had a beautiful sunny day and I was out with my hens . . . the skies suddenly turned dark blue and it started thundering. Then I heard a loud, horrible ripping sound of an uprooted tree followed by a loud gunshot-sounding bang. The neighbor's tree fell over onto a transformer. Not sure exactly how it happened, but we were without power for four hours. Very weird. When it happened, my hens shot up the hill into their fenced-in area! They left me to defend for myself. ha After the rain, four of them dried out on the deck. My EE wasn't with them because she decided to lay an egg at 4:30pm. The second photo was taken earlier of my cat lurking over my BR. Lionel the cat was actually sneaking a look at the rescued squirrel that playing in a nearby tree while I supervised. The hens love to perch on that little branch in the Verbena bush even though it's only a foot off the ground.

Fermented feed question.
I opened my loose covered bucket today to stir it and it was covered with a light skin of what looked like mold.
It bubbled when I stirred it but is this normal or did it go bad somehow?

Does it look like this?

If so, good job! It will be kinda grayish. You should notice a slight sweet sourish smell, kinda like bread dough rising. the bubbling is the fermenting working, excellent work!

My cat loves trying to bathe the chickens. I tried telling him it's a chicken & not a kitten, but he insisted Colonel Sanders get cleaned lol Colonel Sanders loves my cat too. Odd pair.

odd couples do happen a lot.
This was Bacon and LilX, best buddies! she used to ride on his back. Both would SCREAM if I took her away from him, I finally left it be.

Nope

nope it was mold. It had a texture that looked almost like cotton was white and dry looking with a very slight green tint. But I was reading up and think I know what happened My 2 yr old daughter put some winter horse feed in there and the molasses in it messed up the ph by forming alcohol and fed the mold.

Blank Maps Available I posted this info below earlier, and am still happy to provide a map with a certain county and/or create an avatar for anyone by incorporating the map with another picture. Although the two maps I am attaching look the same on screen, the first is a larger size and the second is an avatar size in case anyone would rather create their own.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make my avatar. I think it's really cool.

CRSelvey~ You're welcome for the avatar. You have a pretty flock of chicks!

mccurry & jchny~ I love to see when different animal species become buddies! Both of your examples are wonderful. That's really crazy~ a cat washing a chick and a chicken riding on a pig!
Btw, jchny~ thanks for complimenting my healthy hens, but when you just have five to take care of (and spoil), they should look good! ha

Speaking of spoiled, our rescued squirrel has been spending longer periods of time in his new crab apple tree home. He loves the hollow branch as well as racing around the tree, but when he wants to come in and take a nap in his cage, he comes to the sliding glass door and knocks! I think it's bizarre when my RIR does that when she wants a blueberry. Now we have a squirrel knocking at the door! We just have to make sure the cat doesn't answer.

So sorry you are the one who has to deal with someone else's problem! Can they go to the Humane Society in Louisville? Wherever they go, at least they have a great chance at being adopted since they are a good breed mix and are adorable.

Just wanted to update e everyone on the pups. I found a no kill to take them to. So happy about that.
FYI, for anyone in the Louisville area. The KY humane society charges 25.00 per anmal for a drop off. While that is not a huge deal, there is a good chance they will just ship the animal to Louisville animal control for euthanasia. So you end up paying them to dump the animals somewhere else. They tell you they don't do this, but I used to work for them and know it for fact that they do.
