INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I never got my duck eggs, so after my hen patiently set for a week on one blue plastic Easter egg I gave her the 9 eggs I gathered yesterday. I mark all of my eggs under a broody with a pencil. Do the rest of you? I make zig-zag lines all around it so I know if any hens have laid an egg with her I know which one it is. So if everything goes well I should have chicks hatch on the 13th. that's not including the 30 in my incubator!! I may be getting out of hand with this, at least the wife thinks so! of course she was the one who decided to let her "favorite" hen sit. I've already broke two broodies this spring. I hope everyone's hatches go well.

I realize people have been talking about candeling(probably spelled that wrong).I have the hardest time candeling blue eggs. The only blue eggs I incubate are easter egger and ameraucana eggs. But out of all the eggs I incubate 95% are blue. So it seems like I have to wait forever to be able to see throught the egg shell. But I am also impatient lol. Speaking of blue eggs I have 12 BBS ameraucana eggs that are suppose to arrive tomorrow!!!

. And I had 15 more BBS ameraucana eggs shipped out wednesday so theyshould be arriving any day! Can't wait to have some more ameraucana chicks.

. Then they need to grow up really fast so that I can start breeding them. And showing some of them, depending on how well they look.

Wanted: a lavender orpington chick and a blue or blue/black orpington chick

Oh my gosh pipd you take the best photos!! I am getting impatient about having two new chicks, but I want a lavender orpington and a blue or blue/black orpington around the same age so they can be raised together. I am picky since I only have room for a very small flock. Does anyone have any info about where I could purchase those two? I looked at some of the Indiana hatchery sites, but just saw the lavenders. I'm betting that hatcheries just want to sell bulk anyway. I saw some fertilized blue/black orpington eggs for sale on eBay that I could get if I am desperate.

Reformatory park huh. That is where we will process some chickens? Should we bring along some pet chickens to show them what happens to wayward chickens? Are we having a chicken bbq?
Jchny's proposed wayward chicken BBQ at Reformatory Park and TooFast's idea of teaching pet chickens a lesson is sounding like a good plot for a "Chicken Run" movie sequel! Just remember that the chickens always win. : - )

Oh I just saw this, I wish I had seen this earlier. I ended finding a few SLW at the feed store so I picked them up. The coop is offically full now but maybe I can convince my husband to expand next year so I can get a a few GLW and Marans. Thank you though!! I think you actually are not to far away. I'm in Carthage.

Okay, my first order of hatching eggs just got here a few minutes ago. I am kind of disappointed with them though.I ordered 12 eggs and got exactly 12 no extras!Plus one was broken. And I just realized that some of the eggs are 14 days old. They (not going to say who it was so that the seller remains anonomyus) started collected eggs the 11th. And I just realized this. And am I correct in thinking that if the eggs are older than 10 days the liklley hood of the eggs hatching are very slim?I read this somewhere and am hoping it is wrong, because if its right then most of these eggs arent going to hatch. Crossing my fingers that that article was wrong!

I have always been told that after 10 day fertility drops dramatically. :( hope you can contact the seller and get your money back or replacement eggs.
Darn. I thought about seeing if I could get a refund, but I dont want to cause any problems. But I will definatley not buy eggs from this person again. Thanks for the info
