INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

#1 and 3 are saying "look mommy I am a big eagle!!!!"
:love you have to tell them to stay just that size. Thats about 2 weeks, almost 3?

They are 11 days old in those pictures, 13 days old today. :D

:yesss: Pictures picture, pictures!!! :D

I'll take pictures as we're building. Right now, it's just a big hole in the ground where it's going to be built.

Do you have a favorite lol?  Always the love icon for Rangi.
Isn't it amazing how the little chicks wings are so big unfolded?  That always surprises me.  Cute chicks!

Rangi's the first to hop out of the brooder every day and she was the first to start jumping into my lap for attention. I can't help myself. :love

And yeah, I know what you're saying! You can see in the third picture that the tips of her wings were cut off by the edge of the picture, 'cause I wasn't expecting to have to zoom out any further than that!

Jchny - I am loving the idea of a get together. I think a greet 'n meet followed by school time would be fun. We are looking to butcher our first chickens in a few weeks too. We have 5 total around 8 - 10 weeks ish....right now. Would be great for them to be of age when this happens. I can bring them all for someone who might need a 'spare' to work on.

I can also pitch in some wonderful English food :D We can make it all cultured and stuff...

I am also dead excited about the turkeys hatching. Our momma turkey does not leave the hutch. DH has been in there a few times to be met with disapproval from both parties. Going to be moving a water bucket and food bucket close to the hutch door for her and leave the other ones where they are in the pen.

Dungheap - Good looking chicks there. I still go gooey over chicks.. Then I roll around the idea of whether we can accommodate more... Then I tell myself... No.. I am going to be good.
If I had room.. I would snap them up in a heartbeat.

Danand - Oooh beautiful polish chicks... I am most jelly of those.

Chicken Indy - If your barred was bantam I would take him right away. I have a cute barred cochin that would love a bf :D

CCCC - Sorry to hear someone palmed off some old eggs to you. Maybe they will be good and you will be surprised. The eggs I have sent out so far are no older than a week. Jchny purchased some Royals from me and I gave her an extra that had been laid a day or so earlier that I did not have high hopes for, but did not charge her for it either, She said at least one was bad early on, I guess that was the one. If someone gives you some free eggs that are older, then there really is not a loss if they don't hatch. If you are sold them with the assumption they are for hatching they should have told you the dates and you could have made a decision from there. Bad form on the sellers part. Hope you did not have too much money in them.

Pip - Fabulous as always on the pictures.

Hogster - Congrats on the first egg. It is a wonderful feeling and the urge to share it will all is strong. I posted my first egg picture. It was a double yolker and was bigger than the store brought ones. I still am amazed watching the girls lay and have been fortunate to be there (while they are facing the back of the nest box) to witness it all happening too. They are far too quite while laying for the size of some of the eggs that pop out. The last double yoker I saw produced, not a single peep from the chicken... That's my girl...

I just wanted to say a quick "Thanks" to Quinstar and Mother2hens for the updates on the Indiana members list and for help with my new avatar. I'm a big fan of the state map!

I finally started making a smaller coop for the lavenders and cochins. I still need to make a door and put a roof on it.

Work keeps getting in the way of my chickens.... May have to address this with my boss...

"Vicki, I have had enough.. you are using up all of my spare time with work.. This needs to stop"
"Well Vicki, you need to work to make money to pay for those chickens and future chickens"
"I guess you have a point"
"I do, now get back to work"

See..I tried reasoning with myself. I guess works wins, but I will eek some more time in for the coop.. Just don't tell Vicki :D

So I bought several chicks this year, always making to have two the same coloration because I heard if a chicken is the only kind like itself, it will get picked on. Well, they may have looked alike as chicks, but they sure grew up weird!

This is what "Day and Night" looked like as a chick.

The chick to the extreme left is "Night" and to the right is "Day"

This is "Day" in a better light.

And this is "Night" in better light.

I nono some of you will have seen my post on the guinea forum but for those that don't hang out there I wanted to share a story of a very dedicated crazy guinea hen I have who has spread her crazy to another one of my guinea hens. So I had a guinea go missing. I figured she was a gonner bc of the amount of eggs that were being laid all over the yard. Never thought she could be sitting. But she was. And her clutch has to have 60 eggs if not more? But she don't care. Dog run her off twice she goes right back. She can't cover all the eggs at once she shifts herself to cover diffrent ones after awhile. Noticed today another guinea was missing. I thought maybe sitting? I was wrong b4. I looked in all their fav places that I no aout. No hen. Decided to wait and check to see if she roostes. While out doing evening rounds I find her. With the other sitting on the eggs the other can't cover. Idk if its normal but I think its hilarious. Lol wish I could share pics.
That is so adorable! Sounds like you are going to have tons of chicks! I am sooo jealous!

I think alot of the chicks look so much alike at the start. Like the good old 'chipmonk racing stripe' that turns out to be the same look for multiple breeds.
Without picking breed with specific characteristics it can be hard to know exactly what they will look like as they get older if you don't know anything about them, like chick days at TSC.

This cute, yellow black chick with pink feet and black legs tuned into.....

Black with iridescent green colouring and black legs...

In the first picture there are white wing feathers.. 'The Crow' still has a row of about 4 on each wing but you don't see them unless wings are stretched out.
