INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I don have any right now. Still a little young. Should in a couple months and would love to swap eggs/chicks at some point! When are your chicks scheduled to hatch?

Before I go to bed in front of the fan, I thought I'd give an update on Rocky, our splayed leg BLRW chick. She is doing okay, walking a lot more with her band-aid but still not growing too much, at least not like her sisters in the garage or even her brooder roomy. She was one of the runts so we will keep her until the inevitable happens. no real pictures-- I have been trying to get over this illness and I don't have much energy unless its the bare minimum. The other chickens are getting HUGE....I have to get them out of the storage bin brooder and into the bigger dog crate brooder this weekend. Plus work on the coop. We have to get something started--being sick right when I get the chicks has not helped the coop progress one bit.

Good night everyone and stay safe to everyone who is/will be getting storms. The rain and lightening has reached us and showing us its wrath at last.

Ok. Just finished candling. my guess is 3-4 out of seven at this point. All 7 were fertile, but only 4 are showing mostly filled eggs at this point. The other three seem to be quitters. Guess we shall see this weekend.....

Anyone have any chicks hatch in the last few days or scheduled to hatch in the next day or two that they'd like to sell? I only have one egg that made it to lockdown and don't want to brood it alone. I have the silkies and blrw that will be almost 2 weeks old and don't think they will accept it (but will still try!). Ideally I'd like breeds I'm interested in and relatively close (no further than 1hr away). I'm interested in blrw, ccl, rhodebars, tolbunt polish, silkies/showgirls, etc but let me know what you have. It has internally pipped and tomorrow is day 20 so I expect it to hatch the next day or two.

Mine won't hatch for another 10 days. They would be RIR. And it might be over an hour drive to get to our house.

I think they might accept it, if they can see it for a few days but not get to it. Maybe you could make a brooder divider and eventually they will all get along. My HRIR chicks have 4 weeks separating their hatch dates. I was able to get them to tolerate each other once the little ones had a decent covering of feathers.

Does anyone know if horse and stall spray(used to keep flies away) is harmful to chickens? One the label it says you can use it on cats and dogs.It is a water based soultion and it has 2 ingredients but I can't remember what they are. I was just going to spray it on the walls of the coop to help with flys, I am also going to put up fly traps just wondered if I could use this too. Thanks!

I have used Sevin dust for everything over the years. When I bought my 7 week old lab puppy, she was covered with fleas. I got out the bag of Sevin dust, dipped my hands into it and rubbed it all over her, except for the face. When I got done, she looked like a well powdered powder puff. I put her into her crate so she would shake off the excess onto the crate rug. A couple of days later, there was no sign of fleas. Gave her a bath and a piece of cheese. Good girl!

Today, I noticed quite a few gnats in the hen house, so I sprinkled Sevin all over and put on another light layer of hay. A couple of hours later, I noticed a large reduction in gnats. I sprinkled it in the chick area, dusting several chicks in the process.

If they are all dead in the morning, I'll let you know.

John
