INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I would love to get the loud one just because I would love for my neighbors to hear a loud rooster and realize mine is not so bad, even in hawk mating season.

But DH would not like it as I have too many young roos that I can easily pick one to keep for the winter.

His only saving grace is he is small enough his crow is not too loud. They were roofing the neighbours house Friday, let me tell you he did not approve and spent the whole time they were there crowing at them :D

I bought some nipple waterers on amazon.I was going to drill holes in the buckets I bought today but I dont know what size drill bit to use.Does anybody know what size drill bit I should use? Thanks

5/16 if you want an extra tight fit. We could not get them in using a 5/16 but that is what the ebay auction listed for use. Then the 2nd recommendation was 11/32. That is what we used. it leaks very very slowly but we have our bucket outside so no big worry. I need to look into a better stand though. And my chickens are ignoring the nipples right now. They have had them for about a week.

Does anyone know how to control a hormonal younger roo? He was stressing out his brooder mates (another roo and 5 hens) so I kicked him out if the pen with the older birds. Everything was going good until I had to kick his brooder mates out of the pen and into the rest of the flock. He started singling out his brooder mates again and stressing them trying to breed. He is even going after the roo that he brooded with. Right now I have him penned up by himself, but would like to use that pen to move more chicks out to the coop. The last time I had to deal with this, the Roos became dinner. I'd rather not eat this guy lol.

Welcome to the summer of the broody! :barnie

I just pulled my uber-broody gold laced Wyandotte hen off a nest, where I then discovered she had been sitting on broken eggs and egg goop all day. She had two eggs glued into her feathers and a whole lot of nasty egg goop all over her belly. Needless to say, Miss Broody Wyandotte did not appreciate the hosing off she got after that stunt. :he

Meanwhile, I have a golden Sebright hen, Amy, who went broody right after I got her silver Sebright sister, Scooter, to quit brooding. :rant This isn't as big of a surprise, though, as Chickie, the 8 YEAR OLD Easter-egger who has never brooded in her life, deciding to up and go broody as well!

I need more broody busting cages! :th

have you seen an increase in your broodies. We have here. I had two broody hens last year. I have broke 6 and let two set. Henny Penny above and a Speckled Sussex that will hatch in a two weeks. it has been crazy. and they have mostly bee young hens. the hen I posted is 10 months old.

Sounds like you might have to send him to freezer camp. I know you don't want to, but sometimes it's the only viable option.
