INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Old salt- glad your back, we missed you!! I did take your advice and got some "fines" tonight. I only took 4 bags and shouldbe taken 10. Will try to get more later this weekend. I didn't get them to my chickens till almost dark so tomorrow they will get to enjoy them.

Welcome back Zippy!!;). And welcome Dex!

Old Salt posted: . . . So that is consuming a lot of my time. I have been skimming the posts, but not taking the time to make my usual snide comments and endlessly blathering on about stuff that happened 50 or 60 years ago.

Old Salt~ That's what we love about you! There's some pepper in your salt shaker.

I've been wondering how AmLambson's injured chicken Pepper is doing and how CRSelvey's injured AS chicken is doing.
ellyMayRans posted: Funny how I thought I was addicted to chickens...and now hatching!

ellyMayRans~ I haven't had the nerve to get into that . . . yet, but I have noticed a need on this thread for not only a Chicken Enablers Support Group, but also a Hatchers Anonymous Support Group. bradselig and jchny could get that group started! I need to form a group for people like me who think their chickens are their children.

At least I don't get eyerolls from my youngest DD anymore.
Oh, I have a rabbit now BTW. Doe- her name is Hitler. Any cage mate mysteriously turns up dead.
She lost her happy home when a very upset youngest DD found her little boy bunny executed.
She then found out after the fact this is the 3rd time Hitler has struck.. bad girl.
We will be home #4 in a year.
So since she is a california white... I see bunnies on the list for winter.
Breeding will be monitored, and she will not be left alone with a buck. My only worry is the kits.
Has anyone had a doe like this before, do I need to assume she will harm the kits?
I used to hunt wild rabbit, and raised new zealands years ago. I don't know if I can face the food chain thing now tho.
Gonna see if it works out for us. My oldest DD has a buck already too. Anyone have an extra new zealand buck?
The cross produces a hefty rabbit that grows fast. I am not concerned with SQ, just temperament and bulk.
I remember using calf manna to supplement fast growth and size.
Any advice/experience, links to check out are welcome and appreciated.

I went to the co-op and they were concerned about the liability of this little old woman wandering around all the semis.
I reminded the woman in the office who my DH is and that I have been around semis for 15 years, ugh

He sometimes hauls grain in the fall for extra income, right to that same co-op!
So am stopping by the cattle farmer near us, he has his own silos all over the county here.
Also has the dryer type silos on his farm.
He told me last year if it hits the ground, he can't use it.
I go thru 100# of corn a week, FF now since I added pigs again.
Here's today's try at "capturing" Adeline.

Capturing her other end-- it's fluffier!

I love your pictures, you should be in photography. Adeline has grown so much!

M2h- the first pic actually looks photoshopped!! The way she stands out!
danad~ No photoshopping done although I do have the program (and it's handy for avatars). I was also surprised that Adeline stood out in the the fall foliage.

jchny~ I'm just trying to come close to pipd's photos. I get lucky now and then, but most are bad. It was kind of funny recently after all of my relatives got together when my German relatives were here, I emailed the family photos I had taken and I added on some of my chickens. The family photos were really terrible and the chicken photos were my best ones! Needless to say, everyone noticed the dramatic difference.

And now you're thinking about rabbits? I thought you were simplifying! Forget "Hatching Anonymous"-- you need to start a "Barnyard Anonymous" support group. Although I love bunnies, that Hitler Rabbit does sound crazy. I wouldn't think you'd want to breed crazy. She'd probably be better off being spayed than being bred. She'd probably taste bad, too.

kaphyper~ Nene would probably run Gus off the property before he had time to meet The Brown Girls.

I just saw this, it looks like a nice deal for a small amount of chickens.

WOW! Thanks for posting that coop! I sent an email hoping it was still availble but haven't heard back yet. I'll keep watching craigslist!

Funny--I did email the people I knew in the neighborhood where I saw the chicken resting and then crossing the road. I explained that I wanted to talk to the people about their experience AND to the chicken because I wanted to know why she crossed the road! :)

Thanks jchny2000, mother2hens , danand , and all the others for the welcome!

So I was thinking of doing an order from McMurray to arrive in March. Anyone near Corydon interested in going in with me? The minimum is 25 chicks and I just don't want that many. Look at their list, they have a large selection.
