bradselig ~I am glad you added the "Poultry Farm" part-- it's a great explanation of what your business is and what the "chicks" refer to so that people won't think you sell certain services. Haha

I came up with the name Happy Hoosier Poultry Farm, with help from a few others. And the slogan will be "raising, breeding, and showing happy healthy poultry". Sounds kind of cheesy but it works lol!

CCCCHICKENS ~ That's a good one, too! Both you and Brad have upbeat business names, which is a positive thing!

I think they're a christmas present to myself...is that bad? I know my baby would love to have them under the tree Wednesday morning, but she's already going to get too much that day. Riiiiiiiiiiiight?

Oldest DD loves the silkies, she has really taken an interest in them.

Is the top one a percheron? Beautiful! I thought Friesian at first but she looked bigger. I miss my horses. We had Arabs and quarter and appaloosas. I have been riding since I was 3 years old, but haven't had horses for a long time. Still have the bug though.

He is a Friesian - young though so not as much hair (it has grown in a bit since this pic was taken). I actually have another older Friesian as well. If you are close to me I am always looking for riding buddies!

Grrrrrr I'm so frustrated! The Post Office told me yesterday the babies would be here by 9 this morning. I just called and asked if they had any noisy boxes down there, they said NO!!! Evidently next day express means nothing during the Christmas season! I'm loosing hope that they will be alive let alone healthy when they arrive. : (

They seem to change everyday! I like the boys best too. My only puzzle is trying to keep more than one boy in one coop. I have 2 big boys in my large fowl coop that do great together. I planned on keeping all 7 of these chicks since they have no DQ's I want to grow them out for breeding. I don't have breeding pens set up yet, so hopefully my roo Booker will be kind to them when they go into the coop temporarily until I get pens set up. They are still in the house for now. It is way too cold outside for them.

My experience has been that the roos are usually nicer than the hens when it comes to newcomers...young ones that is. As long as you get them in the pen before they are too close to sexual maturity it should be fine. Should be...lol. They will get picked on but that is normal and they should adjust with no problems. It is easier with a small group like you have also. Just adding one or two and they will be more singled out. And yes, wait to put them out until they are fully feathered. I have chicks inside right now too...seems I always do. I have a very tolerant husband;-)

I'm glad that you are using a humane method. My son who lives downtown said that last night he thought he saw a kitten under a bush in the parking lot, so he looked underneath and a baby possum walked out! Haha. Our family happens to think that possums are cute. One time we had a mom with babies on her back in one of our trees. It was amazing to see. This photo is from the Internet.

I LOVE opossums. I have raised up and or helped quite a few over the years. They are neat little buggers. One of mine loved bananas...she would hold it like a little monkey. Most people don't appreciate that they are our only marsupial and have opposable thumbs. They are also very clean animals....except when mommies like the one above weave insects and slugs into their coats for babies to eat. Fascinating creatures. That said, I don't want them eating my birds!

Sorry to hear this. USPS has changed their shipping this year. They now call it Priority Mail Expressa nod is a 1-2 day service. That being said, if the label/tracking said they would be delivered today and not arrive, it is a guaranteed delivery and you should be able to get your shipping back. If it's late and chicks die, then the chicks should also be insured thus not out any money, just chicks.

What age do you normally see full feathering? Mine are 8 and 10 weeks old. I would like to get them in before my rooster notices they arent babies. lol They seem mostly fully feathered. Pin feathers underneath everywhere though. They are going to be floofy!! They are used to the 73 degrees in our house. My silkies won't go out in the snow, so they are in their 16x4 coop and run.
