INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Have you ever considered showing? You have some really beautiful birds. While I have never shown a silkie I think your could stand their ground in a show.
Thanks! I would like to at some point. Belle has gold leakage in her hackles which is a disqualification, but her shape is getting nice. I will wait until they fill out and see who I have that is show quality.

Right now I just have the 3 chicks available. I *might* have a showgirl and white silkie that are a little older between 1-2 months old. Can't decide if i was to sell them or hold off a little longer. The showgirl I can't decide if its a straight comb or just a bumpy walnut comb. The white silkie is turning out beautifully, the skin and beak are just lighter than I'd hoped.

I am going to Lebanon on the 18th! So getting them to you is not an issue.

That's great we can meet up. My Silkie was sitting on a clutch when I returned from Florida. Not sure any will survive through this polar vortex, but I decided to let her try after seeing how dedicated she was to the cause. She has five under her including one of hers which I hope isn't fertile. She's way too tiny for the big roo I have and I think he's always left her alone preferring the bigger hens. Let's figure out on PM where to meet up. Thanks

I had to trim the front half of my polish's crest. She kept getting water on the front feathers and they would freeze. Her crest looks so pitiful right now. She will look much better in spring when it grows out. She has also decided that she doesn't like me. She attacks my legs every time I go in the pen (doesn't hurt because I have boots on) and doesn't want me to get anywhere near her. But she loves my mom. She is stuck up-the chicken not my mom lol

sorry for your loss M2H

. I have had gold leakage in a few of my ameraucanas. Unless they have remarkable type, I sell them as pet quality birds.

wow it cost 60,000 dollars in damages it makes one want to check everything your using outside for the girls  http://www.wishtv.com/news/local/6-chickens-die-in-shed-fire

There can be a lot of reasons to cause the fire. It could be from the dish, but could have been wired wrong, mouse chewed wires, etc. could have been a faulty water dish as well! The only way to be 100% safe is to keep electricity out of the coop all together.

RIP Jersey ~ She came to live with us on June 12, 2012 and was put to sleep at the Veterinarian's on January 7, 2014. I was lucky to have her and she was lucky to have me. Jersey was the flock leader, my favorite chicken, and the only one who knew her name and could have a back and forth "conversation." (I'm not sure what we talked about, but she was very engaging!) I will miss her so much!

:hugs So, so sorry, M2H!

I lost a special girl like that a little more than a year ago, December 13, 2012. Blizzy. She was one of the few sexlinks I've owned not to succumb to internal laying. I don't know what she had, but I spent a week or two trying to nurse her back to health. She ended up wasting away, and after she passed I wrote quite a lengthy post for her. Several months after she died, I found the little baggy of crumbles I had ground up to wet and feed her through a syringe. I ended up writing another long post about her and I bawled my eyes out the entire time. I continue to think of Blizzy, who was so reliably in the way whenever I was working outside and would scold me in her chickeny way if I dared sass her for it. Thinking of how similar to your Jersey she was brings tears to my eyes even today, so many months after I lost her. Blizzy was a bird I felt privileged to know in person.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that you are not alone. Many of us have been there, and I think most of us can empathize. I know I can. :hugs

Diagnosis: Large tumor mass growing, smaller tumors also -- Ovarian Cancer. Egg peritonitis could be secondary, but large tumor was primary problem. I asked the vet about pain since it was difficult to tell. He agreed that it's difficult to know, but typically chickens barely eat or quit eating when they're in pain. Jersey still ate and led the flock around, but not as enthusiastically as she used to do. At least she didn't have to suffer since I first noticed things weren't quite right a few weeks ago, so it hadn't progressed into a really bad condition. I didn't think I'd ever have a chicken in "Freezer Camp," but she's in the vet's freezer until the ground warms enough to bury here at home. (Total bill: $45 fyi) Very reasonable.

M2H, I am so very sorry that Jersey was taken. She had a wonderful life with you. She couldn't have wanted for a happier home or a more loving and understanding mama.
