Lol Goatluver, you are so lucky that they ignore your chickens. Okay, she is acting more active when I left and I put sugar in her water in a bowl and left some corn and feed in the cage too. I just, I don't want to go home and find her laying down unresponsive and then her start thrashing like Survivor did.

Sorry, I get attached to my babies, I know its not good because stuff like this happens but I can't help it.
Funny though, I named that chick Survivor because out of four they were the only one that didn't get eaten by that coon and then only to have it lose in a final battle. But now, being able to post on here and get advice within minutes I may be able to save this one. And even if for some reason I can't I will feel a little better knowing I did something other than just hold her. Thanks guys. Though I shouldn't have placed all that on you.

That is what a thread like this is all about...friends for support and advice, but also for support! You may need to treat the wounds she has to keep them from getting infected. Do you know how to do that?

Hello, its surprising how much snow is gone, from 1 foot to now none is some patches. All my chickens were out in the run though crowding around wanting to be let out.

I'm pumped for spring and I hope it gets here soon. I've got a big long list of things I've gotta do.

Does anybody else?

I have so much to do my list would bore everyone before they got done reading a three page post ! Top of list though is building my new coop and pen. And thinning out my flock so the new babies that will be going in will have room too.

Um yes, I think so, when I first brought her in, before I realized what might be wrong with her I cleaned her feet and legs with a warm wet rag to clean the grim off the I took some warm slightly soapy water to clean around the cut on her toe but I didn't know what else to do other than clean it. This is the first time I've been in this situation but aside from common sense and what seemed like the right thing to do I didn't do anything other than that before my mom made me put her back out. I did put some vaseline on her comb for frostbite too but that had nothing to do with this problem.

And thanks so very much for the support guys its great to be able to talk about my chickens now without getting weird looks.

Lol I'm making a list now. I hope on getting some phoenix, D'Uccle,Silkies and a new roo to replace this one,(he is sooo mean! But I love him so its a strained love/hate thing.) And some actual ameracaunas bc I think the two I've got are EEs but they are still pretty. and some roos in various breeds to put with the RIR hen, the NJG hens and the EE and the other new hens I wanna get.
I need to get a job!!! Ugh, I want june to come quicker so I can actually get a paying job so I can buy equipment and things.
But I want my new chicken things before I get the job out of those two I wanna start experimental feeder before a job.

Is ok that's what "we is heya fo"! Lol. I get weird looks all th time! I've become know as the "chicken lady" even among family!
You may want to put some NEOSPORINE OINTMENT on that cut ( not the kind with pain reliever in it, and not the cream. ). Also keep her in a clean place so she isn't walking in poo with that open wound on her foot. The ountment can also b put on the frostbite to help prevent infections there. If you have access to it you can also use Bactine spray to help clean up booboos. I've used it before without problems. Just be sure you don't use anything with "Caine" drugs in it ie; lidocaine novacaine etc.

Petting my chickens always cheers me up when I feel depressed. They always seem to understand

When I am having a bad day my chickens always cheer me up.

It's weird my chicken coop is right at the edge of some woods but wildlife never has gotten in. I guess they think it's a lot easier to eat the cat food outside than to have to catch their food lol. I pet an opossum that was eating the cat food

I have pet a opossum when it was eating my cats food too. For as coarse as their fur looks, they are surprisingly soft.

I get attached to my chickens too, many do. To me they are pets, although I do breed and show them. It is hard not to get attached, but I feel like they wouldn't be as fun to raise if I didn't consider them pets.

Lol, I've always wanted to dot on and talk about my chickens but my friends...eh, they aren't chicken people. So I've come on here and looked at and read all the pretty pictures and such until I finally got my own spot on here.

Okay I don't know what kind or even if we have nesporine but I think we have bactine spray.
Uck! I hate my coop! I was worried about her foot bc my coop is a corncrib with concrete floor and its a mess since all the snow with all their poo its like mud and I blame myself but that isn't helping anything. I need to clean it all out and then cover it with sand or something to keep it cleaner.
I made sure I scrubbed her toe with a finger brush thing to get any muck out and it looked like only one layer of skin got cut through not as bad as I originally thought but maybe still enough to cause a problem. Though she didn't fuss or squack while I did so maybe it wasn't enough to hurt her. I just hope that I overreacted and that what happened before isn't what is happening now.
Ya'know. My pappaw came over to dispose of Baby and said that she was probably smothered by the others and that they...tore into her crop but that didn't seem likely to me but he knows more than me I suppose. I found some tracks in the deep snow still near the coop and I think it was coon. I was too messed up at the moment to focus on it but it sure wasn't cat and if it was a dog it wasn't our own and it couldn't have gotten into the coop so coon was the only thing I could figure.
We dint use traps though, my dad sits outside and waits and shoots any coons Or possums. So, that'll probably be what he does tonight maybe.

I had always wanted to make little bachelor pad for extra roosters or very small breeding projects with corncribs. I would try and make a 4 in or so barrier around the bottom of our crib (above the cement) and put sand in it. This way the sand doesn't fall ot. they you can get a scoop and clean up their poop just like a cat litter box. makes things a lot easier.
