Sorry about your fish. I have bought some before from walmart, but that didn't happen. Maybe different brands. I don't buy from their if I don't have to.BTW I love your big algae eaters, theya re huge! I need to get another one, but all the ones they have at pet store are too small, my oscar would eat them.

I'll keep you in mind when we get rid of our tank. We were thinking about dismantling it, but didn't know what to do with the big guys. We wanted them to go to good homes with tanks large enough for them. They are in a 60 gallon right now, and that would be the minimum. Since we only have one fish left, plus the big guys, there isn't much point in keeping it going. They have lived a long time, and I think they deserve to live their lives out happy. Not crammed in someones ten gallon tank. That would have happened if I had given them to a pet store.

Okay guys I have a deal for someone! A pair of buff bearded silkies for free to good home only, meaning no killing, eating etc... One for sure roo, I think the other is a pullet, but not for sure. She sure looks girly to me. They are very sweet birds. I am advertising for a friend. They are in North Liberty. I am posting on here because I know you all won't kill and eat a nice pair of silkies. They are 9 months to a year old.

I have a 55 gallon tank. I currently only have one oscar. I got him and a female from people that no longer wanted them. My algae eater died last year I had him for years, got him when I had my very first oscar. Ten gallons would be WAY to small for them. I can understand your concern with someone doing that, some people just don't have any common sense

So I was going to watch downton abbey but they said they were going to have stupid stuff in it (like how I word that?). So I'm not watching it so now I can be on byc happy and sad at the same time

Where are you located? I would only give them both away together since we have had them so long. The sail fin leopard pleco is about 17 inches long and is around 23 years old. The zebra is 14 or so inches long and we got him 10 years ago, and he was good size, so age guess is at least 10. I have a 3 inch long Kenyi cichlid that needs to go too. So if you could take all three, that would be fine with us. No charge as long as they are getting a good home.

I'm going to give an "opinion" so I want to be sure I say that right up front.

I would NOT use sand as a base in any chicken house. It is very hard to keep clean and it also harbors bacteria and fungus. When it gets wet it freezes and I'm thinking can even contribute to frostbite in the winter as it is not able to get dried out under those conditions.

I definitely recommend wood chips or wood shavings. And you could possibly even use some dried leaves, etc, built up to a deep bedding. If you use leaves indoors I recommend "shredded" leaves (just run them over w/the lawn mower before bagging them up as the whole leaves take a bit longer to break down).

ETA:
I found out that tree services often like to drop off wood chips if they're working in your area as they prefer not to have to dispose of them.

You might try calling local tree services and see if they'll bring you some when they're working in the neighborhood. Many will do it for free. I would keep calling around until you find one that gives them free

After it "cures" (let it set a couple of months...you'll begin to see those piles get full of worms) you can use it in your chicken coop. And it makes a great substrate for your outdoor pens so that the ground doesn't get all compacted. And you get some worms too for feed. Free bedding and free food all at once.

Also my OPINION but we really really like the tree trimmings. even after the ducks destroyed much of our deep litter, the stuff on the floor was dry and composting. And we are gradually using the wood chips to fill in muddy spots in our covered run that happens to sit in the low area of our yard. I won't cover the grass even if there is standing water on it, yet but I am building up the areas around the fence lines of the run and any areas that turn to mud other than right in front of the run door. I need a new run door and run step before I can fill that area.
