A broody hen will roll eggs under herself if you place them close. Also salad tongs or ice cube tongs are helpful for getting the egg close to the mean hen. Just in case you have to do it again.

I decided to get some pictures of the moderns during their roaming time. They are still in the basement in quarantine cages so I like to let them out to roam around and exercise. They are seriously the most docile breed I've owned yet. You can just scoop them up and they will just lay in your hands.

Here are the blue trio and the extra brown red hen.

I didn't get any of the black pair. I'll try to get them tomorrow.

they all look great and appear so sweet! I like the brown red, she is really pretty.

So we've been having a mouse problem. Is it ok to feed the dead mice to the chickens? Assuming the dead mouse is less than 12 hours dead? Kinda gross, I know, but they will catch and eat live ones.

I got them from a breeder in Portland Indiana. I'm working on getting another Birchen pair from him. They are great little birds!

He has some beautiful birds! I so want to get another pair of black rosecombs and a few more rocks! I just love my cockerel he gave me, I taught him to step up on my leg, he is such a good boy. I am nearing the date when I can start buying chickens again and if it wasn't so dang muddy I could work on some pens (to actually have room for more). I hope it drys up by this weekend.

Did you posion the mouse or was it caught in a trap? If you posioned it I wouldn't, I would assume it would posion the chicken if you did. But if it was in a trap of some sort, I don't see any harm in it. If they aren''t interested then I wouldn't offer it again, they usually know what is good and what isn't.

My birds won't touch the mouse unless one of them killed it. The cat can drag a mouse into their area and nope they won't go near it. But should a mouse get trapped in a trap under my sink, either of the cats will accept it as food as disgusting as that may sound. Our black barn cat eats and eats; everything from mice to rabbits to culled chicks too. The black cat even catches extra and gives it to the gray barn cat. Lazy gray cat has yet to catch anything. But the gray cat likes the children so it stays. Right now both of the cats get their tiny bit off food in the morning and have to find the rest on their own. Neither is skinny, even the gray cat is fed well by the black cat. Crazy since both are male and fixed.

Okay so I've got a positive update on my sick/shocked chicky inside!
She is currently eating some shredded carrots and her regular feed and corn so she is eating some.
Her face,comb and wattles are a normal bright red!
So I thank all of you for giving me any and all advice and support and I'm sure that Scarlet also feels the same. If I can I'll put up some pics of her roosting on some tubs she found in a corner of our Mudroom

I lied. I just checked on her and her left foot has turned a sickly green color. She has also had green poop today also. I know green isnt good so if anyone has any meds they know of that could help or any advice id truly appreciate it. She seems fine but her foot looks horrible.
