INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I just want to say I was pleased to meet ChickCrazed today, I am sorry I didn't get to talk more and that I couldn't get you your Buff's. But we will get them to you one way or another. If the roads weren't so bad with all the snow and such it would haven been better. your kids are settled in for the night and will go out to meet the rest of the girls tomorrow in the day light so I can keep an eye on them, and will get you some pic's.
the chicks are doing great they have found their water and grit, waiting for them to find the food so I can go to bed... lol

Dh is lol at me cause I am sitting watching them like a hawk... they are in the computer room with me. They are eating the heck out of the grit ... maybe I should take it up for a while???
Anyway it was nice meeting you ChickCrazed.

On the home page carousel there's a pic for breeds. What is that very attractive black bird with the white penciling?
I think I am in love :love Anyone know?

There are some pretty pics of them in the pickin chicken app.

That is a silver double-laced Barnevelder bantam from Greenfire Farms. Aren't they just so impossibly gorgeous? :love Definitely on my wishlist!

Thank you for the id. They are so pretty!

Thinking I have the itch.

I am strongly considering hatching out my own chicks so I started making my own incubator. Is it crazy or is it normal to think this way? To have delusions of chickens running through my yard all spring and into summer? Is it normally crazy for one to start incubating so deep into winter?

Yes I have the itch!

hehehe you have chicken math! It is incurable, temporary relief can be obtained by holding a baby chick

Several of us are incubating, hatching and setting right now. winter costs are kept down, chicks are cheaper to feed.
I want a frizzle buff orpington rooster but my brothers friend said I don't want a standard size rooster. I know a lot of you guys have roosters so what is your guys opinion?
It depends on the breed. BO's are known to be less aggressive. You can also correct inappropriate behavior in a bird.

About the Snowy Owl at the Evansville Airport (I mentioned it in an earlier post, not because I was particularly worried about it finding my chickens, but because it was a follow-up to a previous discussion about Snowy Owl sightings in Indiana-- and I just thought it was interesting.

Synopsis of news article: The USDA wildlife biologist working at the Evansville airport reported that the snowy owl had been there since Dec. 17th. When air traffic controllers would notify the biologist of approaching aircraft, he would chase the owl from the property with his truck. Soon the owl became used to the truck and would flee as soon as he saw it. The owl was caught and relocated yesterday to an undisclosed location where there are plenty of voles, mice, rabbit, ducks, and geese. The bird was reported to be in good health. The biologist said, "In fact when I was ready to release it, the bird perched calmly on my arm checking out the landscape. I finally had to give it a bit of a launch so it would take off."

Here's the end of the article:
