INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I have an odd question for everyone, I'm going to try hatching eggs of frizzle Cochin bantams, I may keep a rooster, I currently have 4 EEs, what would be the outcome of breeding if they are kept together? And I have to be careful of frizzle on frizzle crossing as well right?
Not sure, but I bet they would be extremely adorable!!

We really need to do another chickenfest~ hands on and learn to experience it in person!
Its a few hundred bucks for all the parts. Everything I have seen, well worth it!

Hrm, maybe I will try a clothesline this year.
I love my clothesline! I had a local welding business make my posts. I have 2 end T-posts that are about 4 feet wide across the top. Each end of the top bar has a pullout with places to hang about 10 hangers (I like to dry t-shirts & dress shirts directly on the hangers). The posts are wide enough for 5 lines. I have a center t-post for extra support (no pullouts there, though). I just have to make sure it's not too windy & to pin things tightly out here in the open country. Some days are just too windy (or rainy), so laundry gets put on hold for another day in the summer!

Thank you for thinking of it, that was really sweet! I left here at 11:20, made it there by 12:50, left there by 1:10, and was back at my son's school at 2:45 for a 2:55 pickup. My step-daughter is 15, so she's just at the right age to want to help, but unable to drive, lol. It was fast and let me tell you there was no making better time with those roads. It was the first time I'd ever seen the snow drifting across the fields like that. It was so pretty and little Savannah and I entertained ourselves looking at the pretty old farmhouses on the way.

I don't know when I will have the results. They had a long list of things they check, so they can see what diseases Lucy may have had, what her overall health was, if she was lacking in anything, and if she had structural issues. I'm really looking forward to knowing more. At least her dying wasn't in vain.

I was thinking about the allergy thing you guys have been talking about. Lately I have been reading about the benefits of local honey. If you get your honey from someone in your immediate area, it has just enough pollens from there to help you build an immunity by having a teaspoon 1-3 times per day. If you mix that with a teaspoon of the ACV with mother, its supposed to really boost your immune system. You don't have to have them together, but it might make the vinegar taste better. Then, you can smash up a bit of garlic and olive oil (or your favorite) and make a salad dressing as another way to add it into your day. The garlic is supposed to help even more. I'm definitely not a doctor but seems to make sense.

I'm thinking of getting some straw or hay to put in the coop for the girls to keep even warmer (and to give them something to do). It was straw that everyone recommended before right? I have sand in the coop now and shavings in their nesting boxes. I can clean it out pretty easily in a couple of days, so it is just a thought.
We will all benefit from Lucy's experience -- and yours!

I hope you still have all of the links and info. We need to include it on our Members Page where we have Health References & Links. When you get a chance, maybe you could forward the info to bradselig, and when he gets a change, he could add it if he doesn't mind.

When our son was at Purdue, we used to drive through those flat, open spaces that were treacherous during gusting winds, etc.

Speaking of my son, Max, (named after your terror -- lol) he recently began using local honey after I had read about that theory. I haven't heard about using UACV, but it seems to be good for about everything. I've heard that garlic is good for your immune system. I bought some chia seeds recently since they've been a health trend. I'll probably end up looking like a chia pet!

At least honey, garlic, and vinegar should be safe. It seems like when something like chia seeds are touted as the next great thing, then a new study is released that says they cause a terrible side effect. I know that the media in general tends to misinterpret scientific studies and just focus on the sensational aspects.
our feed store said they were having chick day in March like always and I can order Rear breeds then. but if DH aint back to work by then I wont be doing that.
I have done lots of Multi quotes, it just didn't work this time,

chick rookie ~ I could never get it to work the way bradselig described, so I do it this way, which is the wrong way, but it works for me. I use "Quote" for the first one and then to add another quote, I click on "Multi" each time. When I click "Multi" then that quote moves to the top. If I don't want it at the top, I just cut and paste it where I want it.
Or sometimes I leave off the quote, like this:

leslea~ I quickly checked your links, and I am impressed! As you know, your niches of fantasy and romance are hugely popular. I like that your photo reflects each genre! When I have more time, I will look further into those sites.
I'd have a hard time waiting all the way until May, too. Why did you decide on a place that wouldn't have them until May? I don't mean to sound rude, I'm just being nosey because I know it's killing you to wait so long. Plus, we like to enable impulsive decisions! hahaha

They're both adorable chickens.  At least you have chix to take pics off.  I am *dying* here.  102 days.

Oh, boy, old school GD.  I love working from home, too.  Sounds like you have the ideal set-up now!

I used to do a lot of freelance writing, had a syndicated newspaper column that was in 100s of small town newspapers.  It was a lot of fun to do and I thought maybe I'd try and be the next Erma Bombeck!  But that's a very tough racket to break into, really.  I really love to read and I wondered if I could write a decent novel.  I spent seven years on my first one.  I thought I was doing better when I only spent 3 years on my second.  Then I wrote a bunch of short fiction for anthologies and magazines.  I have *yet* to make the kind of money with fiction that I made freelancing, but I think it's a bit like keeping chickens...if you're doing it for the $ you gotta look at it from a different angle than I was.

So...after trying my act as a fantasy author, I'm now focusing primarily on romance (contemporary and historical).  My fantasy stuff is here.  My new stuff is here.  I know chickens will eat into my routine (and writing time) but I have wanted them for so long I do not care.  I will make it work!  And I'm sure I will end up writing about chickens, too!  I don't see any good novels about chickens!  And really, there should be something, for those of us wiling away the hours/days until those little peepers arrive.  ;)

I wrote a few short fictional kids books once. I used to be able to right a lot better but the more English I do in school the less I enjoy writing. Wish I still could :'(

Urbanmom ~ You should send a PM to pipdzipdnreadytogo in case she misses your posts. She's into genetics.

I'd like a LF frizzle Cochin, so work on that instead! haha
jchny ~ In a post a couple of weeks ago, CRSelvey had generously offered to do the chickenfest this year, but in light of her chicken situation, it's probably best if we come up with a location that isn't home for poultry/livestock. As you found out last year, parks don't allow processing. If someone owns some land that isn't used for poultry/livestock, maybe a place like that would work-- as long as there's a bathroom nearby. Not the woods. haha

goatluver ~ That's too bad that you don't enjoy English class, but you can do your own writing at home for fun. Regular reading of any kind -- books, magazines, etc. benefits writing. Think of it as a hobby, not as school work.

I am kind of central and could host something at some point. I don't have a super impressive number of birds like some do but I could give pony rides! :)

Mother2hens - thanks for the advice. I really love to read and if I'm writing a research I love the studying part just not the thinking part :) . I'm lazy when it comes to thinking but love working hard outside and with animals lol
