Little Ameraucana Mom I'm sorry that I didn't see your post before I left. It's probably for the best because I might have come home with those fancy geese, which I have no place for! Since I was so close to Greencastle, CRSelvey and her lovely daughter, Savannah, met me at the convenience store cafe where we chatted (and Savannah sang) while Brad was procuring naked necks from you. lol Cheryl and I were both happy to meet the famous bradselig when he arrived with three adorable silkies for moi. I am so lucky!

bradselig ~ (and my fairy chicken, jchny) ~ thank you so much for making my Silkie dreams possible! They are beautiful and so funny already. When I got home, I temporarily put them in the dog kennel hospital set-up that I had needlessly prepared for Adeline the other day while I worked on setting up a 40 gal. aquarium that we used for a brooder before. My son Max came over to see them. He and DH helped out, too. (because they couldn't wait to watch Chicken TV!) That channel comes in really clear through glass, but the chicks were confused by their reflections at first!

Since this chicken transaction happened so quickly, I am reading and refreshing my memory about caring for chicks. Brad said they're going to be 3 weeks old this weekend, so I read that the warmest area of the brooder should be 80 degrees for that age. They seem to like it! It's funny how chicks just conk out and suddenly pop up awake and walking around.


More excitement to come! I'll be adding Kiniska's two English Orp chicks to my flock this weekend, thanks to her generosity!!! They're three weeks old, so they will join the Silkies. I'll probably be switching to a larger brooder before I know it. I originally wanted to wait closer to spring to get chicks, but I've found that they're a great cure for the wintertime blues! (especially when the chicks are blue!)

Because of last night's Midnight Sale on the Indiana Chicken thread, I ended up with four hours of sleep. The excitement kept me going, but now that my new little fluffs are settled, I can tell that I need to get to bed soon. Thanks to all who made it a fun day!

Congrats M2H!

So my Lily has a swollen eye. All I had tonight was dh's biotrue saline solution for his contacts. I squirted a little in her eye, and wiped the feathers away with a cool damp rag. I put some vitamins in their water and left her to sleep it off.maybe tomorrow ill get some vetrycin for her. Not she why her eye is irritated, but she did have feathers in it.

Ooooh, boy... I've been resisting chickie fever since November, but I don't know how long I can last! I just started a countdown for my upcoming chicks on another thread, too. Oh, May can't come fast enough!

I was also drooling over these dun Ameraucana bantams. Luckily, I convinced my mom to convince me not to splurge! (Long story short, she told me I should go for it and I gave her my reasons why not, and then she told me why I shouldn't go for it. ) No space! I have no space! Anyone want to donate a few hundred dollars toward a new coop to feed my addiction?

~~jchny2000 has spoken for 2 pairs. I know I have more hens, I'll have to look and see if I have another drake, I usually charge $15 for a pair and/or $10 each for hens. When we get some nice weather maybe week after next, I'll have to round them all up and see what I have exactly to sell

I just use the triple antibiotic ointment from walmart. Work pretty good

There are splash ameraucanas. But it is not an accepted color, so then some AM people throw a fit if you dont call them splash EEs. Some say non-standard ameraucanas. Wit all the termanology (sp) people get easily confused. People try and give color names to EEs, but I don't.If I am going to call it something it would be exactly what it looks like. I would call her splash peach. Call her whatever color you want, there is no standard so no one can tell you you are wrong. 
I have BBS ameraucanas. None for sale right now, but I may in the summer. If my current ever start laying. Plus I am getting a shipment from Paul and Angela Smith, depending on ratio on male to female, I might have a few I want to get rid of. I definatly want to get a nice trio out of them maybe 2 and I am getting 15. I will be able to tell sex for sure by july at the latest. I am pretty sure Brad has BC marans.

I have been talking to Brad, the bbs means the Sm ones right? 

Chick Rookie- I know it's hard t figure out all the abbreviations, I get hung up on that a lot too. I guess that's what we get for being "rookies" in the land of PROS. Lol

while I have you here ... it is official ... Big Man gets his own house with 3 Cochin hens...DH has gone COCHIN crazy... says I should have nothing but!!!! That aint going to happen... but I see my 2 ac free range dropping and new fences up in my near future ..

This coming from a man that said " I just don't get why on earth you want chickens??"

And I want to thank Brad... he wants Silkies too, he wanted to put them in the same Big Man house... I don't know if that would be such a good ideal???? they are so small and Cochin's are so big...

Woohoo!!! Let me know when you find some - I will go in on an order with you so Chewie can have some ladies too! Silkies in with the cochins might work since cochins are so laid back and easy going. You might find the large fowl cochin thread and ask! It would be super embarrassing if a silkie roo is top dog over big man though....
