INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

So I'm sure you are all sick of my pics, but I took the camera into the pitch black den and snapped a few pictures. The result is pretty funny.

The progression of sleeping with five kids under you. I'm pretty sure she is levitating. 3 weeks old and ornery, but they still need their momma.

I'm not sure if any of you have seen The Croods, but this is a family sleep pile.

I went out to the coop to feed and collect the 4 eggs I ALWAYS get first thing and what I found just made me cry and cuss!!!!!!!!

First thing I saw was a whole CHEWED in the pop door big enough that a med sz dog could get in. I opened the door and one of the perches were broke in 1/2. my top laying boxes were broke up and scattered around the floor, and 2 hens missing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big Coon tracks all over the place, DH says it was more then 1.
I have 3 live traps out tonight and my gun loaded and ready.

Oh no! Thats awful. It is colder and snowier than usual for the woodland creatures too. They are probably getting desperate for food.

I haven't been able to figure out iCloud - stupid incomprehensible apple.  My iphone is set to automatically back up to iCloud, and every time i plug in my phone i get a message saying it has never been backed up to iCloud.  COME ON!!!! It is set to automatic....if the phone knows it hasn't been done why doesn't it do it?!?!?!?!?  It also is not intuitive on how to put stuff up and get stuff down from iCloud.  I need an iCloud for dummies lesson.

Haha. I've actually never used the I loud other than for backing up my iPad. The one time I thought I could put it to good use and put pics from iPad to PC I couldn't figure it out. Lol. Enroll me in that course too!

My 3 goats are scratching for the grass, The cow seems to not care one bit about the snow.
I put the hay outside so they come out of the shelter.
We are hoping the ground thaws enough to put the posts in and increase the pasture area.

UGH I have no clue with Ipad or any apple stuff. Now a PC, no problem. Good luck!

I have been in and out all day. Have some very happy geese and ducks :lau

Thanks, I figured out the issue. It was actually my PC. Had to reinstall some drives.

Let me check, I may know of someone. I know she does 4H so they would be of good quality.
Welcome to our thread, if I haven't already said so :frow

Hmm, let me know if they offer chicks or eggs!

With all the wonderful birds you have why would you want hatchery birds Brad?
i can always use some good layers for eating eggs! I want to get all small comb breeds for laying flock. Some EE, brahmas, wyandottes, ect. Plus I want some d'Uccles and not too picky on quality of them. If I can get some nice ones then great! If not, I'll be happy with hatchery.

I had a similar problem transfer a pdf file from my kindle.  turned out the cord was defective and amazon sent me a new cord for free after talking with CS for over an hour.  The cord was under $5.  I think Radio shack sells cords that would have worked for a bit more but I did not want to drive there buy the cord and try it out only to end up returning the cord.

DH went to Martinsville RK tonight for chick feed.  Martinsville RK does not have ducklings in right now.  I did not ask DH about chicks.  He would have lost it, we have enough little chicks right now.  I did not ask about the bunnies but there is typically a bunny or more in that RK.

I think it would be great, maybe add a column for available breeds.

TSC in greenwood and Franklin both did not have chicks or ducks s of yesterday.  The employees there said the district manager placed the live animal orders so the store employees did not typically know they were coming until the night before or even when the chicks showed up.  And they kind of laughed when I asked if they knew what they would get in.

I will start working on a spreadsheet and will ask for everyone to send me the local stores info. My iPad issues was actually a computer issue, had to reinstall some sort of driver.

Brad - you could use wetransfer.com too.  I use that for work all the time.

Thanks, I'll have to bookmark it!

I had a a blue ameraucana bantam cockerel get beat up yesterday, by another rooster. Just a bald spot on his head and his beard pulled, but I felt bad for him. I seperated him. I went out today and he was kind of waddling. I picked him up and his feet and legs were cold and hard as rock, he couldn't bend them and neither could I. IMO it is entirely to cold to be bringing him in the house to soak his feet. I know it isn't paralysis, because I should still be able to move them. It was like his legs and toes had literally froze. I just held his feet in my hands for 15 mins and that did the trick. I could bend them and he was walking a lot better, might take him a few days to get his "land legs back". I have a feeling I might have to do that the next couple of days. I think his legs and toes were actually froze! Anybody had something like that happen before? He is perfectly healthy, just not as big of an ego now. No frostbite or anything. I checked majority of my other chickens, including other bantams near him and they were all perfectly fine. It is no colder where he is then anybody else. I just never had it happen before, thought it was a little odd and wondered if anyone else had experienced this.

I am wondering if maybe you are related to Mr. Miyagi?

Has anyone found any other stores with chicks yet? Thankfully rural king is not very close, but may have to make the trip here soon!

Brad, I think it's time to rename you to ChickJunkie ;)

Btw! I forgot to mention that I loved the link you posted with walkways for chickens to avoid the snow! That's a great idea.

Thanks, I liked it too. I think I will set up some cinder block and 1x6s for next winter and it will be my sure fire method of preventing any snow from falling. We had that happen the year we bought a snowmobile!

Just the New Castle rural king near me so far, they got the "sale" from me for my new layers.
I called several stores before we went out. TSC surprised me, they didn't know a date yet!
I say your 2nd, the splash is for sure a pullet. The first does have some thick legs, and I see a hint of spurs on the right leg....  time will tell.
Thats a lotta comb too...One of my Turken hens does have spur buds, so hang in there! 12 weeks will be a good time to judge.
Its horribly busy here. We see my moms surgeon thurs to find out details for the knee surgery. My brother is doing well, and behaving, but restless.
Dad is still waiting for his new heart valve... my sis is doing very well after her gall bladder surgery, they did the new procedure so recovery is a lot easier.
Still mourning the loss of dads oldest sister, my aunt Evelyn. Hope we have come to the end of the "bad stuff" this year, and can look forward to the good to come.
Hope your daughter is well, I know she was having a terrible time of it last month.

Your bad stuff has to be done, you have too many chicks coming for bad things to happen :love

Oh no! Thats awful. It is colder and snowier than usual for the woodland creatures too. They are probably getting desperate for food.
well they need to find someplace else to get their free meals, not only did I lose 2 of my good layers to this but I have lost 5 other hens to this winter.. well 2 were just very old and couldn't deal with the temps I think. But I was in the coop ALL DAY fixing and repairing...... and I aint great at that, with DH down right now it all falls on me, a carpenter I'm not!!
I'm really just worn out and want just 1 day where I can just relax!! No dead critters, tore up coops, waking up and not having time to drink my dang coffee cause I have to get ready to take DH to doctor, or to the store cause he wants too look around cause he is bored at the house... I'm sorry I was just going on and on, anyway I found out why the coons are just now coming around... the neighbors have been feeding them and has stopped now... so I guess we are the next free meal!!!!!! City Slickers......

Here are some quick pictures I took of the silkies I hatched from Kabhypers eggs. They are just beautiful!
