INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Mr. Miyagi was the teacher in the original Karate Kid. He'd clap his hands, rub them together, and put them on the injury to heal it. If you get interested in a clip, you tube has one called Daniel wants balance. It sounds like you helping your chickens legs feel better. It was smart thinking.
I completely understand. I'd be mad too. Is your pop door inside a locked run? From your previous pics it seemed like it would take work to get to the door.

Oh, I have seen that movie both old and new. The name just didn't sound familiar. Makes more sense now :)

Its just over 1000 pictures. My old computer was so slow i never bothered to really use it. Now that I got a new computer, I was to clean up my ipad and get all the pictures off of it. I think it would take forever for me to email them to myself lol.

bradselig- if you would have bought a Mac computer, you would have Photostream where your photos automatically appear on all devices. I can take a photo with my iPhone and it's immediately on my phone, iPad, and iMac. Btw, I hope you have iPod minis to entertain your flocks!;)

Kaphyper - those silkie photos are nuts! It looks like a Silkie convention!

Kiniska - I guess with three new baby goats, who needs a horse? ;)

Here are some quick pictures I took of the silkies I hatched from Kabhypers eggs. They are just beautiful! Two little partridges Single Black I believe this will be a splash, but possibly a light blue. Two little whites And a showgirl from my eggs and my 3 modern bantam chicks
Brad your babies are always adorable! I wonder what my hatchlings will look like... 7 more days...WOOHOO!

Think it's zipper broke. So now down to 17 eggs in there. Friends eggs I'm expecting to start their exodus anytime now. Kab: day 14 candle nearly all are dark now and most showing movement, I think the other was sleeping.

I went out to the coop to feed and collect the 4 eggs I ALWAYS get first thing and what I found just made me cry and cuss!!!!!!!!

First thing I saw was a whole CHEWED in the pop door big enough that a med sz dog could get in. I opened the door and one of the perches were broke in 1/2. my top laying boxes were broke up and scattered around the floor, and 2 hens missing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big Coon tracks all over the place, DH says it was more then 1.
I have 3 live traps out tonight and my gun loaded and ready.

Its horrible to find that, I have fox prints circling my growout coop. I set snares and traps. The bottom of the doors are chewed! I beefed the doors up today, and my littles out there are shaken up. I also saw coon and CAT prints and am livid over it!

I hope things improve for you soon, you sure have had some hard knocks.

thank you, I sure hope so! Everyone is recovering well, so its just my parents upcoming surgeries now.
I am sure ready to focus on babies, hatching and everyone's health to be stable!
Quote: I wish we could all get together on a coop fixit-upper idea. Its really hard to tackle a project alone. Everything I have put up here for the livestock/poultry was 90% me and some help from the DDs/Their SOs/DH. I am the only one that's retired, so I just work it all in as I can. Having support to make a project happen is always more fun!
If we had a group that helped each other, it would be so amazing and easy! My biggest challenge is extra hands to hold up, lifting in place, brainstorming...
When we raised the barn here, we had several friends, neighbors and family over. We had just moved here a few months prior, and it was so much fun meeting everyone. We offered all the food. Steaks, fish fry, BBQ chicken, corn on the cob and lots of other goodies.. It was SOO much fun, and we have helped others locally since then.
I met some of the local people and made a lot of great friends that weekend too. I would certainly volunteer for a work co-op, I love helping out.

I had the same problem last year. I used to leave to coop door open and had done it for about a year and a half with no problem as my chickens are inside a fenced in back yard. Just fiqured the smell of the dogs in the yard kind of kept them away. Well one night I came out to find one hen dead and everything was a mess in side the coop. So I immediatly started closing the coop door at night. Then next night the raccoon had chewed a hole through the bottom of the coop floor and killed three more. So i set a live trap with a can of wet cat food in it and caught it the next night.

So glad Max is recovering! That's tough, do you have somewhere with tile or linoleum that can have a pee pad on?
We are a huge puddle here so i feel your pain

They wont get thru that! I am so sorry
Last april was our firzs time of having chickens - i did call ahead to a TSC in our area to check availability & they said they had quite a few - 1/2 hour later i get there & not even one chick to be found - they sold the remaining lot to someone who got there 10 minutes before i arrived - said theyd never seen it happen before where someone bought over 100 chicks at one time . So yes, calling ahead is a good plan - but not 100% guaranteed , since i dont think they'll hold for you.
LOL good post! I called my local TSC, they went from 25 CX to zero in the 15 minutes it took me to get there last year. you just don't know til u get there.

OK i got pics of my mealworm farm. Here is a bin I am starting after its been spent/used and eaten!
This slides into an open faced box. I use 4 of these to keep the mealworms going.
I have them in different locations so I don't risk a loss of the whole farm.

Wheat bran. I had a bag left, but I also use rolled oats or just chick feed. its about 2-3 inches deep

Here is a batch of beetles and worms. adding to the new bin..

Closer look

I use this to "start" a new bin..

Middle drawer is cut out at the bottom. I hot glued window screen to the open hole i had cut out.
Eggs and tiny mealies drop to the bottom, and start a new colony. I usually let that drawer sit a month, then rotate to the next drawer.
Bottom drawer has feed in it, like rolled oats, wheat, chick feed.
There is a fantastic thread to help you learn the pros/cons of raising them
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/492636/mealworm-farming
Hope this helps! I have kept them 2 years this august, and we use them for fishing, and feed our Oscars with them as a treat too.

Just curious if anyone around the Terre Haute, IN area would be interested in letting me use their incubator to hatch about 30-40 eggs. I am going to order some eggs and this will be the only time I hatch myself so im not really wanting to purchase one just for a one time hatch.
