INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

They are just precious! I bet it is an EE, after all, EE are truly a mix. And they make the best chickens too! I love my GLW/BR crosses. Hens are super sweet, good layers. Roos are huge and friendly. Can't ask for more than that.

I bet they settle in quickly for you.
I love EE's I have problem with them being EE's, its just that I want pure blood Americana's to breed with a Blk, Cooper Maran Roo so I can get my own OE's. Its just something I have wanted to do for awhile now. So I have to put them back on my list. but as for having EE's now is No Problem... love them, just cant wait till they stop stressing so bad, I have to clean pasty buts today cause I stressed them so bad taking pic's yesterday.

Aww poor lil guys! But yep its time for them to be on their own. I would be keeping them in too. Mine are still in the garage (heated).
I only have 3 silkies out, but they are in the growout coop with steady temps around 35.

Awww She is my fav! They have bonded with you, and assume you have goodies to eat, no worries.
They are happy to see you, thats why they charge the cage.
The wyandottes are very outgoing. Make sure you teach them early pecking you is not ok!
Red still bites me on occasion, I hand fed him and his girls when they were babies. Big mistake!
He doesn't mean it as an attack, just thinks I have treats, ugh.
Rings on your fingers are a huge attraction too!
My EEs are usually a little flighty as chicks. Some of my favorites have been total sweethearts too tho.

Wyandotte are chipmunk marked, and some EE are also.. hard to tell but thats my first thought.
So excited for you! Love those little white tophats

She is my Favorite Lt. Brahma too I'm getting pooped on all the time... lol

We had a recent run of raccoon and possum, since we had that warm up. One raccoon ripped into the roof and took one of my lavender hens.

There was little left of her to even know what she was. I am just sick over it. She was very sweet and docile, and always on our laps.
Most of the south side of the roof is failing fast, and now its becoming dangerous for my birds. Found the bugger in the nest box sleeping.
We are now 4 less raccoon and 2 less possum per my traps and rifle, but that's not solving the problem!
Hoping for a thaw really soon. Moved my remaining 2 LO hens to the grow out coop until Spring lets us build and repair.
I put my 2 best roosters with them, and the remaining roos are staying with the egg flock. I am out there several times a night now, worried sick.
Your little splash is definitely a hen! But I am not good at guessing silkies yet...
They are all just too cute! You may have to have "quality time" with individuals...
Just get one out and spoil em rotten. Silkies come around fast when they get individual attention.

UGH, I wish it wasn't so far. I would love to have a few, the history behind them is pretty cool.
The eggs range in different shades all the way to BLACK!
I know hatcheries have them, but I don't want more than maybe a trio.
And would prefer to get some raised by a breeder, for sure!
We plan to go up for the first wolf lake swap, is that anywhere near you guys?
WOW yours went through the roof, mine went through my door... is it just me or are these coons on steroids??? I made a steel ( sheet metal ) door maybe you need to make a metal roof... lol Sorry about your hen, been there done that and it is hard.

AHHHHH! My husband was exactly the same way!!!!! I could smuggle in 80 chicks and he would never care, let alone look at them. The ducklings? He was all over them... I'm pretty sure he even coo'ed at them while giving them their first warm bath, then gently wrapping them in a towel while we sat on our couch together to watch a movie...
Thats too funny

They were zipped and ones head was stuck t the screen in the bator they were both dead. And none of the other eggs even pipped. We ended up with only three babies out of yours AND Kim's.

minmin~ My gosh! You had better slow down. I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's health and wish her a speedy recovery. I'm glad your round trip from W.Va. to Indiana was safe and filled with poultry.

I have a few crummy, out of focus photos. I can identify with chick rookie whose new chicks are wild. My chicks typically act like I'm one who can't be trusted even though I wait on them hand and foot, clean up constantly, feed them, make sure they have toys and their favorite channel during TV time lol, and have let them have dust baths that have resulted in the room being coated with dirt. They have calmed down since I started feeding them live mealworms or small crickets from my hand each evening. I sit on the floor and lean down so I'm not so Godzilla-like, but they still find me untrustworthy.

So, all of that explanation describes why I have a few crummy photos. If anyone can possibly tell sexes, please speak up. I keep meaning to take photos during the day with natural light.

The Silkies (from bradselig) and English Orps (from Kiniska) are both six and a half weeks old. Last time I mentioned their age, I was off a week, but I re-checked my calendar. My blue orp, "The Rooster" refused to stand still to pose this evening.

Splash Silkie with mealworm.

Splash with one of the blues

The other blue that has a lighter back

Splash Eng. Orpington pullet trying to escape the camera
they are so cute, I love the Splash (I think that's what it was )

Thanks for the offer. :) I think we are sticking with two for now. I hope they get along with the chickens. When they are big enough I will put them outside with them, I' not sure how the transition will go though. Im sure it will be different than adding chickens to a flock. Did you add your ducks to your flock later?

I am having a similar issue with my silkie chicks. Momma flew the coop literally last night to go back with the flock, and now I am trying to gain their trust. It will take awhile, just be slow and calm and very patient. Take them out individually and let them nuzzle on your shoulder and neck (if your arent afraid of poop lol) They will start to bond with you. They have probably never been handled.
I know they have never been handled they were to young when we got them for anyone to have had the chance, but just have never seen any b this WILD... but will work on it ... they will come around sooner or latter, ( they better anyway ) I have a ISA Brown that calls for me I think cause I had to put her by herself so she could heal, the others keep pecking her. I know they don't like being by themselves so I put her next to her sisters cage so she can see them.

Oh my lord look what I found after work!!!!
400

Now I have a question/concern! It is not moving and walking around. It's just laying there. I can tell its breathing and it moves it's head a tad bit. Look very wet still. Is this normal, or should it be moving around more?? I'm a bit scared

If it is still very wet, it probably only recently cleared the shell. They will usually just flop and sleep at that point, since they just spent so much energy hatching. as far as moving and walking around, after they wake up there is a lot of lurching around and climbing over whatever is in their way. I wouldn't expect a lot of true walking till they are a dry fluffball, and then they still don't have great balance for a while. If they aren't walking in 24 hours, then you may have an issue.

Also - expect lots of loud peeping when they first start moving around. The world has just gotten big, and they aren't really happy about it.
