INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

CCCHICKENS~ Haha I was going to say the same thing! Vacation? Haven't had one of those in a few years.

leslea~You'll probably end up like most of us . . . you won't want to leave your babies. I hate to be gone more that one or two nights. It's ridiculous! Luckily, when DH and I have been gone for a weekend, my son and his GF have been happy to help.

Someone on BYC recently started this map if potential sitters, and I think racinchickins passed this info along to our thread. I signed up and think it's a great idea if enough people sign up-- it's a little sparse right now. Map of potential chicken sitters
I might have to put myself on that map just to find someone close to me. I can't believe there's no one in Louisville on it!

Hubby sounds like he's swinging away from the beach and towards a staycation.

Whatever, just pick something!

. (what does TBH stand for). You could ask the neighbors, doesn't have to be a kid. It will be much easier for you to find help. You fill the feeder, change/fill the water, and collect eggs from 6 chickens. I don't think someone would appreciate having to do my chores lol. They would have to go in 7 different pens, open 8 cages, fill 16 feeders, fill 16 waterers, and collect who knows how many eggs. That would make for one interesting paper
Yep, not even any eggs from the girls if we do go this year. Looking like we won't.

TBH = To be honest

Yeah, your routine is a bit daunting!

Hello Everyone! My fiance (Jonathan) and I are starting our adventure in chickens this year! We are in our early twenties and live in Westport. We are animal lovers and have a flock of Katahdin sheep, a horse, three dogs, and four cats. I am a horse trainer and he is a Mechanical Engineering student as well as a drafter at Cummins. We have 10 mixed breed chicks right now and will be getting several Buff Orpingtons, Wyandottes, and possibly Brahmas in the next few days. I have been reading articles on this site for quite a while and decided it was time to make a profile and start getting to know everyone!

RavenChance & Jonathan ~ Welcome to the Indiana Thread! We are glad you are joining us. You'll have a nice flock with all of those chicks! Please look on page 2324 at post 23234 for info about the Indiana Thread. We love photos, too, of all animals. I don't remember any of our members having sheep . . .do you sell the wool? We have several alpaca owners who sell their fiber.

Here are my hens enjoying a dust bath today around 5:00pm while the setting sun warms the bricks behind them (and melts the ice!) I often bring them to the front of the house at the end of a cold, but sunny day since this is their favorite spa.

So I tried this once and my phone glitched. If this is a repeat sorry.

If you want to stay in state, you could spend the day at french lick casino, or do an over night at White Oak cabins at patoka lake. We stayed there a few years ago for our 5th ann. and LOVED it. I wish we could find time to go back. Pm me if you want any more info on it.

Hope you can figure something out.

On another note, we should be getting our 25 BA pullets tomorrow morning!!!!!! I'm super anxious and excited!!

Decided to update some pictures, I plan on taking a picture of each of the chicken breeds in the chick bin. I probably need to make more room for them... Diamond and Earl will b going outside soon (I hope) so the babies will go into that brooder pen. There's so much more room in there!
