INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

LOVED these color pics for eggs! We have wild berries here but most the goats have taken.
Yes, we do need support. always! When I started our thread, I made sure we always had interested people involved to help it grow and thrive. We do have members come and go, thats ok. We are still here when they pop on again. It was really hard to find answers when I jumped in a few years ago and wanted to raise healthy egg layers in our state. No info for feed mills, avian vets etc. So I started our thread. I love our members here

consider many dear friends! I wanted an open minded chat and support platform, we can share, vent, and ask for help from others. We have that here and I hope it continues to grow

bradselig is handling our member list, so I will pm him. He has done a fantastic job updating our sort feature to find breeds locally and a lot more.

Just let me know what you want me to do. He can copy and paste or forward the messages to me and I and I can help with the updates or whatever you guys need done. I was just telling M2H that I really appreciate all that I have learned here and I'd be happy to help keep it together for others to do the same.
Well got a knock at the door at 2:45 am, liked to scare the jemmies right off me, it was the farmers boys and the sheriff. The man was arrested for 4 different things and I gave a statement as to when I first notice him and all. I have to put my pic's on a flash drive and give it too them, cause they are date and time stamped. don't know what was taking so long but they were out in the woods and at my back pasture at 4 am still when I had enough and went back to bed. I got up at 6:30 and they are gone. Beat ya I wont have any more lights in the woods now....

OH MY GOSH. That would just freak me out. I live in the woods too and its the only reason I've ever considered getting a rifle. When my dh goes out of town I don't sleep much at all. If he traveled more, it would be worth getting an alarm on the whole place, but for now, my Fiona and Max do the job. So happy for you that they took him away. Be safe.

Welcome! I did the same thing when I started last year, I got a bunch of different breeds to see what I liked. I have settled on a few that I want to focus on. I chose the Bielefelder for similar reasons you chose the Norwegian Jaerjon (and they even look a bit alike!). They are gentle giants, known for being super friendly and they lay like superstars all winter long. They are also sex linked as chicks so you know immediately what you got! My chicks are ready and should be getting shipped in the next week! I'm super excited! I'm also located just north of Indianapolis!

Those chickens are really interesting. Where did you get your chicks and thank you for bringing them to our attention! That's just what this group needs is another kind of gorgeous bird, lol.

Hey guys I found my dream coop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That coop is just flat ridiculous and awesome!

I forgot to tell you guys that I saw this chicken tractor at Costco the other day. It was $199 and so cute. I think it was big enough for three hens, but it would be great for little guys while they are growing up. Its probably not sturdy enough to handle predators in our area, but not bad in a protected place.

Thanks I am SOOOOO excited! I really love the large gentle, friendly breeds. I love the cochins, but since they are only mediocre layers I don't want a large flock of them. These, from everyone that has them, seem to have that same puppy dog personality but are amazing layers. I ordered from Omega Hills Farms - they were excellent to work with and I would absolutely recommend them. They specialize in a few rare breeds. They already said they are throwing in some extras since they have had good hatch rates and we have been discussing the weather. They were going to hold them for me until next week if I was worried about the weather. Just great service all around. My chicks are going to be here tomorrow!!!!! I am also getting Blue Isbars with the Bielefelders.

That coop is great! When I win the lottery I want a whole row of round roof coops!

RK has a similar one but its regular price is closer to $250. The run MIGHT be a bit bigger on the red coop at RK but otherwise they both look the same.

I had to bring out ol Betsy! (That's my coyote rifle) I've had a big old, I'm assuming male running around all times of night and day. Seen him twice yesterday. Both times he was heading towards our barn!! This is not good news with our Nubians dropping kids now! He will with some luck disappear in the next day or two. Sorry if this offends anyone but I don't care for preditor's roaming this closely go my barn and animals!

Yikes! We've had one around here too. My neighbor set some snare traps 2 weeks ago but there were tracks again yesterday morning so apparently he hasn't caught it yet. Kind of makes me nervous to feed animals in the dark even with my gun.
