INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I'm looking for homes for my EE roosters. I just listed them on Craigs list. They are from a hatchery stock. I'm fine with them going into the pot when they are big enough. I really don't have the chicken housing to grow them out right now. There are a couple that are white with red shoulder feathers. They are going to be quite stunning.

Well I figured out how to tell the sex of our new kittens. Just love the internet! More specifically Google!

We have 3 boys and 1 girl.
This is the only girl.

I'm glad Cricket did his job and everyone is okay. After I posted that and hung out in the barn and pasture with the hose and sprayer for a while, they chilled out. I hope it was just a fluke. I have no intention of getting rig of Gus if I don't have too. If they continue to spar I will have to. Lets just hope it was a bad day and they are over it. They are sleeping cuddled up next to each other on the roost like they usually are, so I know they don't hate each other. I have 2 black LF cochin cockerels that I would like to keep. Thats the one nice thing about cochin boys, they take forever to mature, so I have time to decide what to do. I'm sorry about your dog. I hope your pit doesn't get lonely now. Are your goats okay?

Ya the goats are ok, it's really better for the bloodhound and us. He will get all the attention he needs, and are pit shadow will finally be able to eat in peace now. She will be way better off. Yes cricket is a great rooster can't thank y'all enough for him!!

I'm happy he has a good home with you guys. He is a good boy, and I don't think he was happy here with us. He didn't have his own girls being the bottom roo. He spent a lot of time by himself talking to himself and finding worms. He is so pretty we didnt want to part with him, but it wasn't fair to him to keep him on our account. I can't believe he held off a bloodhound and no one got hurt! Thats crazy!! I'm glad you found your dog a good home.

Lovely. If you don't need her, I would like her once she is weaned / eating cat food. If getting her fixed is a deal breaker, I can get her fixed once she is 24 months old. I really would like the kitten experience once or twice for my children too.

One of our roosters started to crow today. My husband laughed at me because I thought it was so cute and he said " we will see if you still think it is cute in a month." Haha he is probably right, but oh well. After their first full week in the coop, I let the chickens have access to the run all day today and only 3 of my 19 ever ventured out. It was crazy windy here though. I am curious to see how many of them will go out and explore tomorrow.

Brooder is as ready as I can make it. Hubby is taking off Tue when our chicks come. Big day!

Here's a pic of him hanging my door on the run. I really didn't do the best job planning the door. There is still a gap at the bottom and we're going to have to add something there to close the gap.





But the door is hung! Hopefully the rest of the three sides will be easier going. Hardware cloth is a bigger PITA than I expected, even after having read everyone saying it's a PITA. My daughter got scraped by it and I didn't even realize she got near it! Hubby went to grab it out of my hands without warning and tore a bunch of skin off my thumb. That was right after I finished thanking him for hanging the door and I suddenly didn't feel so grateful.

The true test of a marriage: working with hardware cloth and sharing *one* set of work gloves.

I changed my avatar to this chicken pic by Davidlohr Bueso. I used it for a teaser for my latest book. I wrote chickens into the story as a way for the Rancher to show the school teacher how much he cares about her. There was NO MENTION of hardware cloth.



I have no other news, other than this is my 300th post and I still don't have any birds. LOL

It will be a fun week, though, and I sure have learned a lot in preparation.

I would say you've "owned" them since you paid for them months ago! You just haven't taken "possession" of them!

I will say, the most nerve wracking part of the chick thing was waiting for them on arrival day. Depending on the post office is not fun!

Ha! True! I didn't think of it that way.

I have been stopping by the PO to talk to the clerk since last week. I had some stuff to mail so I chatted him up a couple of times about what to expect on Tues. He got confused and thought I meant *last* Tuesday, so I guess I'm not the only one anxious. Thankfully I live in a small town so it's always the same clerk at the counter, and he said he would leave a note for everyone that chicks are coming Tuesday morning. I hope to pick them up right after I drop off my daughter at preschool. I guess I am nervous because my stomach clenches just thinking about it.
