INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

number9 ~ I think I might've told you this already, but when we started with chickens two years ago, 5 out of 6 of our RIR "pullets" from RK were boys. We thought about bringing our cockerels to RK's Return Desk!
ChickCrazed ~ That's a good deal! Hope someone can use it. Thanks for letting us know.
I never succeeded with zucchini, either, and I had full sun. I don't know--maybe it was a defective plant.

Okay, so I changed out my pine shavings for sand, and moved the brooder into the mud room, which I can shut off from the rest of the house. It took a few days, but I started feeling better. Tonight I felt good enough to take some snapshots of the chicks, and as soon as we finished, guess who had itchy eyes and a headache? I think I'm allergic to the birds.

While I wait for my Allegra to kick in, here are some pics. Everyone is supposedly 12 days old but my bantam EEs are much, much bigger than my bantam BR. I wish I had more BRs. Amy is so cute and sweet. But all the chicks are sweet. The silkies are very laid back. I can't really complain. The EEs are amusing, very curious. And the guineas are just weird enough to keep us laughing. Really do wish I had room for more, but I guess if I'm going to be allergic to them it's just as well. Just my luck!

Here are some cute babies at 12 days old:

Amy's wings are NOWHERE near as feathered as the EEs!

Well we got hit hard by a pack of coyotes last night killed 5 roos several layers all but 6 of my chicks and 3 meat chicks. I need a turkey tom asap!

so we figured out what happened with my little giant incubator and why it quit working all of a sudden. My DBF took about the electric component and and said the circut board was fried. I looked at it and sure enough wires were melted and there was brown stuff all around the circuts. I'm taking it back tomorrow and hopefully getting my money back and going to RK to hopefully find a farm invovators.

Hey folks! I'm 100 pages behind, so I'm only going to check in and give you my 3 broody sisters update!
As of 10 mins ago I have 3 little hatchlings hatched and 14(13 really, I'm thinking one is a dud) more eggs to go! I never even saw a first pip, I mean, what did I expect??? That they would call out to me and say: "Yo! We are pip and zipping!"
This is so exciting and I'm happy to see that the momma is still sitting. Now to keep my eye on the other two girls.

Oh no, I'm so sorry for your loss. We have a tom and turkey hen (is that what u call a female turkey?), we have raised with our flock. Maybe that is why we have been so lucky and have had no :Dpredator losses. Some say not to raise them together, but we haven't had any problems. Sometimes the the female will go after our mean rooster and I think "u go girl" he deserves it.

Yes she is called a hen. I have lost no birds from coyotes when i have had either geese or turkeys. I have had air raids and lost a couple. The only problem i ever had with raising turkeys with chickens is when my bb hen sat on them and squished them otherwise she protected them fiercly!

Oh, so sorry!  Where in Indiana are you located?  I know we have coyotes around here, but have never seen one.

I am located in markleville indiana approx 10 minutes from pendleton and 5 min from anderson. I have seen huge coyotes all around us. The little jerk came back to clean up his mess tonight. My husband shot and missed unfortunately.
