INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

400
her are my chicks they are ees and two silkies what color you think the grey/blue chicks will be as adults

The first ones TSC called then red sex links they are a mix of female Rhode island reds, and male white leghorns. We picked up 6 of them a month ago. Looks just like them.
The last one looks like the White Leghorns.
Not sure of the middle one.

No. Red Sex links are rir males and silver female of some sort . Leghorns cannot be used because they are dominant white and you wouldn't get sex links.

Took some more pics of our new little ones over the weekend so I thought I would post a few of the ones that we hatched out.

They are all just mutts, but I think they are going to turn out to be some pretty cool chickens.

Then I have these two that I got from Brad, I have no idea what breed they are. Anybody have an idea what they might be. I know the pictures aren't the best, but they weren't cooperating at all. They missed the memo that said "Stand still and look Pretty for the Camera."

Final chicken count is ten. Two EEs, two GCs, two Black Orps, three RIRs, and one mutt - who looks like a Welsummer/RIR to me - whom we call Queen Penelope the Great and Terrible.

I've reached the maximum limit of my WAF so there will be no more than ten. I can't wait till they're all laying!

She's a wellies brown leghorn I believe.

Hello everyone.

My name is Matthew and I am 26 and live in Seymour Indiana. I have have kept chickens in town for a little over 3 years without a single complaint and the support of my neighbors. The local city ordnance administrator has recently decided to cite me as being in violation of city ordnance that he later admitted didn't apply but I was still forced to speak at the city council meeting or he would still come and take them.

I spoke at the meeting and they concluded that I was not in violation of any ordnance but since the subject was brought before them they now must write an ordnance about it. Well I was able to receive a copy of it before it was introduced to the council and it is not good. They are looking to ban them and force registration for any chicken already in town with animal control, in turn you will receive a paper as proof of valid ownership which you must keep on file. It reads in a manner that suggest if you lose that paper and they find out you will be subjected to a fine of up to $2500 and confiscation of your chickens.

This is supposed to be introduced at the meeting taking place on May 27th @7pm in Seymour Indiana city hall council chambers. I was told I will have to pack the city hall meeting with support to have a chance to defeat it so that is my goal. Anyone in the area that sees this and could attend or offer advice and support or anyone who provides a link to a more permissive ordnance of their city that I could present to them as is or modify to possibly be sponsored by a member of the council would also be much appreciated.

Anyway I thank you all for having me and hope that I can become a good member of the community you all are building here.

-- what else can you say sometimes....best of luck with the city council. I also thought of what was suggested -- especially to get local 4-Hers involved. Have them come and share about what they have learned & what life skills they have developed through the raising/caretaking of chickens (4-H is HUGE on developing life skills & this would be a great opportunity for some 4-Hers to see what a difference in their life & someone else's life those life skills can make!) And welcome to the thread!!
raisenemright ~ She is a striking looking hen! I love the black. My EE hen, Roadrunner, (pictured below) is a "classic gold" color (my term lol). As I understand, since Easter Eggers are a mixed breed that isn't recognized by the APA or ABA (Bantam) for poultry competition, there is no recognized standard. Since they don't always look the same and are often bred for variety in looks, they don't conform to a standard.
They're non-conformists-- and that can be a good thing!

So what breeds actually go into making an Easter egger? A lot of my cross breed chicks from my 2 hatches have the look of an EE, but I know only 1 or 2 at the most are from the EE eggs that were in the clutch. I really need to get some pics posted one of these days!

Busy weekend as usual! I had to wrangle and box two unhappy roosters on Sunday to get them off to their new home. Chewie was, of course, a great boy and I was able to get him boxed with minimal fuss. Ozzie, the Marans cockerel was not having anything to do with the box of doom. I barely got him in there and he erupted out a tiny hole in the top. I had to tackle him mid air. After getting him boxed and carried to the car I went back for Chewie and discovered that my old skinny horse had decided to play with the box!!! Poor Chewie!! The horse was nowhere to be seen when I walked away, not sure where he came from and what got into his old butt! The box was on its side, no real damage done but he was NOT HAPPY about being shaken around!!! It was great meeting amwchickin, I hope the boys do well at her place. I was really sad to see them go but my four barebacked hens were sooooooo much happier already this morning. Still, it was a bit strange not to hear them this morning

.

I'm gearing up to start run construction in the next couple of weeks. I need to get my Bielies and Isbars separated soon before the ginormous Bielies start trying to mount the tiny Isbars!!! That would be bad!!!

My newish babies from Brad are doing well! I took his crooked beak Silkie and she (hopeful!) seems to be settling in well. I also took one of his non-bearded silkies and she (again, hopeful) is a sassy little thing! I decided they need Ditzy names so they are Fanta and Moxie (after a couple of brands of soda). Here's hoping I get a broody!

Exactly the kind of ideas I was hoping for, had not thought of that but I will be trying to pursue that avenue as it makes perfect sense. Thank you for the input!

I'm sorry you are having to go through this!! I would also make sure as many of your supportive neighbors attend as possible. They will no doubt try to pull the noise/smell/predator arguments and your non-chicken keeping neighbors saying those things are not an issue will help a ton!

Looking good! What kind of comb does the black one have? I found another one like that in the brooder. It does not have a straight comb. Also that yellow had feathered legs correct? I heard imported orps have hatched chicks with feathered shanks and they lose them with age. Both of those chicks hatched from a brown egg.
