INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

If I can buy a couple, I would love to...  I will put them in a brooder in my garage with the heat lamp like I did my other girlies until they 4-6 weeks old...  Is there any way I can send you a private message to see when you are available?

Of course... Others may have some too, it doesn't matter:) I bought them for me and now I may have over bought for my small 3 acres.

Okay has anyone had trouble with a chick that pecks at other chicks eyes? I have a tiny (seriously the smallest chick of them all) California white that is pecking at all the chicks eyes.

That's her in time out. I thought maybe she was bored so I moved her to the larger brooder.

But she's still doing it, should I be concerned?

Where I found it: http://www.survivalboards.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/uncle-sam-raising-chickens-3613.jpg

It is printable if you follow the link. I just did not want to paste a giant screen filler picture here.
I remember seeing some similar posters or pamphlets from the government encouraging people to raise meatrabbits in their backyards as well. I think it was from a period where there was a war going on also, but I can't remember how far back they were from -- probably early - mid 1900's. Weren't Victory Gardens part of this era also? Times have certainly changed from the government wanting people to raise their own food to how hard it is to do so legally now -- at least in terms of food other than fruits/veggies (dairy, eggs, meat, etc).

Haha. I wouldn't worry about it. She will soon lose her curiosity towards eyes and move onto toes lol. Chicks crack me up.

Children love cookies. All of my family recipes are for double batches as I grew up in a large family, my mom grew up in a large family, and so on for as long as my mother can remember.  5-6 eggs are needed for almost every batch we make.    It is nothing for us to use 7 dozen eggs in a week.

My ducks should start laying soon.  Since their eggs are about the size of 2 large store eggs that will cut down on the number of eggs used.  The hot weather will cut down on the baking too.  But Dh sure does love homemade eggnog.  It is so easy too even easier than the homemade mayo.

Mmmm now I have an eggnog craving ;) DH is the one that makes that around here, I'll have to drop a few hints!

My chicks love things that are shiny and eyes are shiny! We rotate shiny things through our brooder: A large stainless steel serving spoon, a alrge shoe horn and hanging old DVDs are the favorites.

I guess I would only be concerned if the others were getting hurt. Maybe if you give her something shiny that is what she will peck instead.

Sure is cute though!

I have a question about buying a used coop. It just occurred to me that if I buy a used coop, I have no clue what happened to the chickens - what if they were diseased or sick?

What do I need to do to ready a used coop - does it need to somehow be disinfected? What do I need to do to clean it before I put my babies in it?

Any thoughts on what I should ask the owners (of course I would have no clue if they were being honest!!).

Hubby and I may go look at a coop in the AM and all this started going through my head now that it is time to sleep!

Thanks all.
