INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

So I posted a picture of the chicken plucker. Here is a video of the plucker in action. It does show the scalding process as well so it can be graphic depeding on your definition of graphic. As you see in the video it does an amazing job only leaves a few end feathers which you cut off anyways.

I am sooo envious! I am hoping we get one built soon. I am skinning rather than plucking right now.
My three hens combs were losing there color. I know as they get older and as they lay eggs that the comb would do that. My hens are at least three years old or older but I thought that they combs should not be that light. I then remembered some one say that stress would cause color loss and heat is stressful. Someone else posted that they put electrolytes in the water to help them handle stress. Well I finally added the electrolytes to the water and in less than a week it has made a tremendous difference. The hens combs are as red as the roos now. Thank you all.
I add it to the water at least once a week, more in the summer. Glad it was a minor issue.

I was wondering how that thing worked. Thank you for sharing the video.

I remembered someone wanted close ups of my Black Australorp's and Jersy giants. I finally got a few and by the way I'm not a pro at pics!
This is what I believe is a BA hen

Now I'm not sure on any of this besides that I did take a pic of the bottom of chicken feet today!! Lol
So anyone want to chime in and let me know what I this are. If you say both pullets I will be really happy!!

It's hard to tell by the pics, but the pullet seems to have yellow feet and the cockerel has white. That would mean JG pullet And BA cockerel. And he's definitely a boy.

Contrary to the practices of some, the cornish x can have a normal, healthy life.

I have read those threads, and I'm definitely not ruling out cornishx, especially since they're so readily available.

The biggest consideration will probably be whether I decide to keep a breeding pair, or just buy chicks to raise up for the freezer.

I'm liking the sound of the Bresse. I did a little reading into the thread on the breed, and there seems to be some disagreement about the legitimacy of the American variety? I understand they originated in France, and I'm very familiar with issues of regional trademarking and such. Honestly, aside from academic curiosity, I don't much care what their pedigree is if they make big delicious chicken dinners.

Potential chicken symptoms. Again.

So, I have a GC pullet (Ariel, for those of you who are getting to know them because I never shut up) with a swollen, squishy breast area. I thought maybe it was just a full crop, so I looked it up and that seems about right - except people were saying that a full crop will be more on the right side, and this bird is squishy all across the front. I noticed it yesterday morning. She's holding her wings farther back. Otherwise she seems to be acting normally, she's not lethargic, eating and drinking normally.

So, should I freak out now?

I almost didn't reply since you hadn't edited it yet, but here goes...

Can you post some pictures of her?
How far down does the squishiness go? Is it less squishy at any time during the day?
Does she emit a stink like sour milk when you press in on the squishiness?

That's a neat idea I think I'm going t try it! What did u use for a weight inside the feeders?

I found a heavy steel pipe connector in the same aisle as the pvc at lowes, pretty much anything with some weight would work, it just needs to fit down the width of the feeder and be heavy enough to pull the string as the feed level goes down. I just grabbed something like this since it was close by when I was getting the PVC for the feeder - I'm sure you could find something more elegant
