INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Dad is in the hospital, ICU. We had him taken by ambulance last night. He was in congestive heart failure. His valve has calcified to the point it wasn't allowing blood flow more than a trickle. They ballooned the valve, twice and was able to get it opened enough to allow somewhat normal passage. He is on oxygen, and they are trying to get him drained out of all the fluids. He was having allergic type symptoms last 2 days, but when he started having chest pains and panting we called 911.
FDA still has not approved the 29MM replacement valve needed to do his surgery. He has an unusually large aortic valve, thats the hold up. They currently only allow a 26mm valve. Dr said he is stable for now but needs the surgery soon. It is supposed to pass FDA in July so fingers crossed. The alternative valve is too high of risk, it would mean open heart. He is 80 and Dr feels he couldn't survive the procedure. Please, keep my Dad in your prayers.
Thinking of you and your family during this trying time.

I'm so sorry! How scary! It is crazy that you can't get the larger valve even if it is still with the FDA, it is ludicrous that you can't sign a form waiving liability somehow. Please let us know if you need anything.

Is she drinking water?  If so,  you can put in the waterer for her to get that way.

Some will put a couple drops in the beak if they aren't drinking but you must be very careful doing that so that they don't aspirate into the lungs.

Here is directions for administering liquid by mouth:

Thanks so much ! I came home last night and she seemed to be doing better but I gave her a few drops anyway. She's the smallest out of all of em.( a little welsummer) the Easter eggers are the largest and most assertive than the wyandottes, even my welsummer roo is being pushed around a bit. I'm hoping once they get some yard time they'll be better together. Focus more on finding critters than each other

Thoughts with you and yours
.
Prayers for you and your family.

I will do that and include you as well. As it's never easy on everyone when a loved one is ill

a coyote could probably kill a sickly goat. Though they wouldn't have the guts to do it. I have never had anything kill a goat mine are persay "vulnerable", as in all that stands between the coyote and the meal is a measly fence.

I hear people talk about mountain lions all the time, but have never seen one. I am sure they could kill one also. But never had a goat killed

Coyotes kill deer so they could easily kill a goat.
