Any great ideas for treating a rash from a poisonous plant like poison ivy or poison oak? I think our cat found some and the rash is from holding the cat.

Dry it out from the inside with Benadryl, and from the outside with Ivy Dry.

I think she is a her. The barred rock males have lighter coloring and tighter barring. Plus they do tend to get HUGE combs early and I'm not seeing it in the pics, definitely the color is not there. Also, to make you feel better, barred rocks tend to be risk takers, thrill seekers and don't take any crap! So I think you are already seeing that come out in her. It is a breed thing, not a gender thing!

She is the family favorite, by far. The kids fight over the chance to hold her.

Yup, agree! She has beautiful barring already, too! My Barreds are definitely the rulers of the flock, second only to my old Rhodies. Sassy girls! They definitely were the friendliest in their brood as babies, too. Only ones that have been more cuddly are the Dorkings.

The spray is easier for us to use. We spray our coups often I think it ends up being at least quarterly but we spray for 3 days when treating. Day 1, day 6/7 and day 10. We use the seven that is roughly 20% active stuff and mix it in a small 2 gallon hand sprayer. We also have dust places around the big runs too.

Man I sure wish the mosquitos would go away. They are BAD this year with all this rain (not complaining after two years of draught!). I tried to sit outside with the birds for a few minutes and then walk the gardens to check things out and got eaten alive. I sure hate having to put stinky bug spray on to go outside but it is looking like one of those years!

I have to say, this year's pullets sure have stolen my heart.

All six are following me around talking to me when I am outside and they want to hang out CLOSE to me. The two marans and one of the barred rocks will even squat to let me pet them now. Such progress from the flighty chicks they were a couple months ago! I almost don't care that I'm NEVER going to have eggs!! LOL

They are bad here to so I broke down and bought a fogger and man that has helped. I'll lock everyone in their coops and I'll fog the area and its about 3-days and i'll have to do it again. It is nice not needing to put bug spray on in morning before going to work or night before bed. seemed like I was taking 3 showers a day just to get bug spray off of me

I'm a lifetime hyper-reactive sufferer, too. I have scars to prove it.

The externals like calamine and witch hazel are good. I don't have personal experience with Ivy Dry. Witch hazel is my favorite.

Personally, I don't waste my time with benadryl. Get a prescription for hydroxyzine (Vistaril, Atarax, but the generic is cheaper). Your doc will probably give you tiny little 10mg tabs. It's a miracle cure for poison ivy reactions, and it utterly stops the itching.

Also, wash the cat and any clothes you think might possibly be contaminated. The plant oils can still cause reactions up to a year after they leave the plant. If your cat is the vector, and has been all over your furniture, you might have an ongoing problem for a while. You can spray and wipe with alcohol to break down the oils, and it's safe for most fabrics (but not all so be careful).

Looking for suggestions, ideas, pictures, designs, drawings, etc. for the Official Indiana T-shirt. We would like to get as many submitted as possible. Please PM lilmizscareall with any ideas, suggestions, etc. Also any input on style, size, etc. would also be appreciated.

We are also still looking for input on the 2 options listed on the flyer for the pot luck/and or bbq, as well as volunteers for demos on FF, candling, or anything any one would like to demo, talk about or do.

Putting in my .02 cents lol. Love love love th idea of shirts. Idea for "logo": maybe put the
Chicken (only) from the BYC logo onto the shape of the State of Indiana with a caption something like "We chickened out at the Indiana Chickenfest 2014" ???? I would also suggest just standard T shirts. I like my shirts with room though so 3x would b comfy.
As far as meat options... It wouldn't b fair t make anyone "slave over a hot grill", I'm all for the potluck idea.

I also love the idea of the shirt. Not really particular about the design. I love V neck t-shirts, but would wear a regular shirt also. Does BYC have any opinion on us using the logo? Would we need to get permission? They might even have some ideas for us.
