INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Anyone interested in a homemade cabinet incubator? Ive used it the last 1.5 years with pretty good success. It has a digital incukit from incubatorwarehouse.com. For egg turners, I have altered little giant egg turners to fit. Total of 3 turners in the incubator and i also have a hatching tray for it. I hatched in the incubator once but typically hatched in my little giants. Im asking $200 obo. I can get pictures soon.

Thank you so much! I can't wait to get it set up.
Your birds are beautiful, by the way!!
(Especially the tolbunts!)

The "girls" are 11 weeks old today. I would love any input on Breed if you look at a picture and any - oh that's a roo! Not exactly sure of Breed b/c the urban farming store just gets a mix and they were pretty clueless as to what they had. I can't believe how hard it was to get these pictures. Every time I would squat down to take one they would run over "OOO mommy must have a treat!!" The Flock (wasn't it nice of them to line up so perfectly for me!): Queen Elizabeth - Barred Rock (I know what those are!): Rose Tyler - Barred Rock (Son got to name this one! Big Dr. Who fan!) Had to share two to get all of her: Nina - Black Australorp?? She has pinkish grey feet bottoms, in the past few weeks her legs seem to have gotten really big, which makes me wonder is "she" possibly Nigel not Nina? Clara Oswald - Jersey Giant - she has yellow feet bottoms (the other one my son named) Rhoda - Sexlink?? We were told Rhode Island Red, but we know that's not right! Her head is a ton redder than the rest of her body but that is not as noticeable in this pic. Rhonda - SexlinK?? Another one were were told was a Rhode Island Red NOT! "She" is much redder than Rhoda. Someone said they thought she was a Production Red, but they are all from Meyer and I don't see Production Reds on the website. About 2 weeks ago "her" Comb and Wattles suddenly got much bigger and redder which left us wondering is Rhonda is actually Rodney. Two pics b/c I love the second one but you can't see all of her!
My opinion...Rhonda IS Rodney!!! The tail feathers give that away, check "her" legs I'll bet there's little bumps that will someday be spurs. Check the web sight t see if there's Golden Comets because that's what the two red/white ones look like to me.
You cannot rely on spur growth at all to determine sex. Spurs don't typically grow in until much later than 11 weeks of age, and I have had a pullet grow spurs in at the age one would expect a cockerel to grow in his spurs; she is laying now. Several of my hens have spurs, as a matter of fact, and a few are growing them now. And some roosters, like my bantam Cochin Po, don't grow spurs in at all. If Rhonda is a red sexlink, she is a girl. Males are white. Red sexlinks mature pretty early, and her comb and wattle growth are not outside of reason for a pullet of her age. I can't see her saddle area well enough, but she should have or be growing pointed saddle feathers by that age if she was a boy. Check her back area around the base of her tail, or take a picture to post and I can tell you. I think she's an early bloomer, though. :) And you are correct that Australorps have a white or pinkish patch on the bottom of their feet, and Giants have a yellow patch. Nina is a girl, no worries there either.

Bad news!!!!!! My Seabright King Aurther passed away at 6:14 pm last night in my hand while his mate was sitting on my knee singing to him.
So sorry about this! :hugs I'm glad you found another Sebright for his mate, though. Give them some time and I'm sure they'll warm up to one another. :)
Okay...look at these 2 reds from the hatchery...Pullet or Roo?
Your birds are as much boys as my Rangi is. ;)

I just went out (in the rain cause I really wanted to see) and both sex links have bumps. And when I think about it and look at pictures, they really were not yellow, they were more golden than yellow and both chicks had reddish marks on their heads and down their backs. I am actually not even sure what color boy sexlinks are supposed to be - maybe that is what the boys look like???

In regards to spurs, read my post right before yours.

Here is a comparison of adult red sexlinks:

Chick down is variable, but here is an example of one hybrid of red sexlink. Remember, red sexlinks are hybrids, not breeds, and are a cross between a red or gold male and a silver female. How the chicks look will depend on the cross that goes into them.

Are they the same age? I'd say that first pic is a too. It looks like the tail feathers are starting to get dark too. Check the insides of "its" legs t see if thete are spur nodules. Bottom pic possibly a pullet.

OK so my opinion may not be correct but the tail on the bottom picture looks like the bigining of rooster tail feathers to me. I have a golden comet (red sexlink) that looks like that one but is older and HE is crowing. I hope it reveals its true self soon. Let me know what it turns out t be, will you, please.

Okay...I confess.

I posted those photos of the 2 red birds purposely. They are the same age. I have had them now for 2.5 years but these photos were taken a long time ago.

They are both pullets in the photos. I just posted to illustrate the huge difference in the appearance of combs and wattles in hatchery red birds. These birds were from Townline hatchery and sold as "Rhode Island Reds".

The one with the larger comb and wattles I call "big red". She lays an egg almost daily since starting to lay (with the exception of molt and the winter time off.) The other one is my girl that brooded 2 clutches for me.
